Needle Biopsy and Cyst Aspiration

Well, I had a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound for a breast lump today. The lump looks like a complicated cyst (meaning not just fluid but "debris" as well), but behind the lump they found a mass they want to biopsy. Although they probably wouldn't schedule it as a procedure on its own, they will also drain the cyst while I'm there to make me more comfortable since it's been bothering me for quite a while, and they will recheck it in 6 months. They gave me the canned spiel about what to expect for the procedures. But now I want to hear from those of you who have experienced either or both of these procedures. What to expect? How to prepare? Any advice?
Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks. The cyst is 1.5 cm, so pretty big. The mass is about 1 cm. was looking up information on line last night. Shouldn't have done that. All it did was show me the bleakest outcomes...

Just wanted to wish you luck Varuca S.!!!! I have three sizable cyst (5-6mm) that I could have drained but since they generally don't bother me I am letting them be and hoping they will disappear once I am in menopause.

I have not had a cyst but have had a mass and a needle biopsy in hospital. I felt a small prick from the needle but that was all. I did have to have surgery and radiation. All was removed and all has been good being that I was stage 1 which is the earliest and the healthiest to cure.

Stop going to the internet to find out things as you can scare yourself to another planet.

I am recovering from lung surgery and I did not look up the procedure on the web so that I could concentrate on getting well and not worrying about the what ifs.

I will keep you in my thoughts that al will turn out well.

I had a 1.5 cm lump not that long ago which they did a needle biopsy on. This was done in the office and only took a minute or two. It will definitely be uncomfortable, but know it doesn't last long. Unfortunately for me it came back positive for breast cancer, but after surgery and radiation I am now in the clear. I hope all goes well for you. Take one step at a time and I wouldn't do too much research until you know exactly what you are looking at. Good luck with everything.

Been there. Was scared to death. I prepared for the worst, creating all sorts of havoc for myself. Ended up having a larger mass removed and it was noncancerous. The procedure in the hospital was easy-peasy because they gave me a medication that super-relaxed me. The recovery was painful for a week, and I personally found that the pain medication prescribed actually made me feel worse than the pain. So I always suggest that anyone going in for any procedure ask the doctor ahead of time if it's ok if they try an over the counter medication (and which one would be safe). Other than that, it's over, I'm completely healed, and without a mass there, my mamograms can get a clear look at everything and I'm grateful . Wishing you a clean procedure and recovery. All my best.
