As others sugessted work for the schools. I'm a single mom of a teenage son and there are lots of single moms driving. In Chesapeake they train you for your CDL license at no charge. They also allow you to bring your child with you. you do not need to live in this city to work for it. If you live in a you may want to ask whatever city if they have free training and if you would be able to drive for the school your child goes to.

Well, one thing that my mother did when we moved from NY to VA was get a job at one of the schools working as a "lunch lady" or you could apply for Teachers aide...or substitute teacher...or maybe with driving a school bus or aiding on one. That way you pretty much have the same schedule as your son in school and if you drive a bus, he could always ride yours. I know in Chesapeake they are short school bus drivers and such. I'd look into something like that. Good Luck! =)

I was at one time thinking the same way as you. Now that my kids are in school full time, i can venture out and look for a job with the same hours as their school. so here is what i am going to do:

work for the school district.

You get the summer off, as well as every day the school is closed during the school year!!!!!

Just like the other mom's suggested, I have become a substitute teacher for the school district. You need 30 college credit hours but if you don't have the college background there are are still other school jobs. You can research job openings for your school district online. Also you could get a job as a daycare teacher at a church. Those kind of preschools follow the same school schedule and usually are open around 9-1. My daughter's teacher suggested it once my kids are in school fulltime.
