I watch 2 little girls throughout the week, but I am not making enough money. It's really hard to find another child to watch right now for some reason, and we're going broke quick. My husband works 11am-8pm, so besides babysitting, I don't really know what else to do. My kids have never been in daycare or to a babysitter, and I still think that the baby (10mos.) is too young to be without mamma. I waited tables for 8 years, and quit to stay home when I had Aubrey, and began babysitting in April of this year. We can't afford daycare, so I want to continue to stay at home, but it's hard to find a business to do from home that is trustworthy. Does anyone work from home succesfully that could give me some advice. I can't afford to do anything that will require me to purchase anything upfront, so nothing like that please. Please help! I'm desperate!

What can I do next?

Many stay at home jobs will require a lot of time and resources (i.e. money) up front before they are successful. Maybe you should be looking at ways to reduce your household expenses so that your babysitting and your husband's job can make ends meet until your youngest is old enough to go to school. Think really hard about your monthly bills - every little bit helps. Clip coupons, keep the thermostat at a higher temperature so the AC doesn't run too much, prioritize everything between whether you need it or not. Many users of this forum have experienced great financial accomplishments using a get out of debt / money management program. Maybe they can share their experiences with you.

Bethany,

Have you heard of Scentsy "Authentic Wickless Candle"? Extremely safe w/ no wick, soot, lead, or flame.

Our warmers are heated by a 25-watt light bulb in a 2-piece warmer, our candle bars are made of a soft wax packed full of incredible scents. With a burn time of 60-80 hours per Scentsy bar (and sometimes more), over 80 scents to choose from, a wonderful selection of warmers, plus car candles and room sprays, there's something for everyone.

Consider this: By the middle of May 2008, we sold over 1.5 million worth of warmers, bars, room sprays, and car candles. That's 495% more than during the same time period in May 2007. That's AMAZING! We also added 698 Consultants in this time period. THAT'S 612% MORE THAN WE HAD JOINED DURING THE SAME TIME PERIOD IN MAY 2007! If you are considering a home business, this is a great opportunity for you to get in early with a company that I believe will become a household name! Ask me about MY SPECIAL for anyone interested in BECOMING a Scentsy Consultant in the month of September!

Have a Scent-Sational Day!

Have you thought about working at your church or another daycare? If your church has a nursery/daycare/preschool, you could possibly work there and take your child with you to work. I don't know if you need to work full time or part time. If you could work part time, that would be perfect.

Have you thought about a loan or Home Equity Loan, applying for some sort of assistance like WIC? I don't know how much your husband makes, they do have income guidelines and you may not meet their income guidelines. My husband makes pretty good money, however we have a lot of credit cards and we have tough times and we have had to cut back on a lot of things. In addition, I've had 3 surgeries on my right arm/had, so we have lots of medical bills.

I enjoy scrapbooking too! If you ever want to get together and do scrapbooking, let me know! I am working part time with Easter Seals and I also teach Sunday School at our church (they pay us!). I'm a Job Coach and I help clients with disabilities in their work place. I do my reports at home and a lot of phone calls from home. I do go to help them in their job and it is rewarding! I make $10 an hour, however the work isn't always steady. Have you thought about Medical Transcriptionist? I checked into this and you do have to go to school to get certified and trained. However, you end up making a lot of money! I couldn't do it, cause I have arm/hand problems. It is a lot of typing and listening to the Dr.'s reports/notes. There is a school in Fort Worth, I'm not sure about Arligton or HEB area. If you want the name of it, I could find it for you. If you could get some help on the cost of the schooling and get trained, you could eventually work from home. It will be hard, cause you will have to go to school and learn and study, while taking care of your kids. So, you will need some kind of childcare or have your hubby watch the kids for some of the time.

We go to Save-A-Lot for our grocery shopping and anything they don't have we go to another grocery store. We buy the off brands and occasionally buy a name product. Use coupons, watch out for sales in the newspaper/mail,etc... Shop smarter and eat at home. The more you eat out, the more that costs. I buy our child's clothing at Just Between Friends (Consignment Sale). You can sell some of your things there-kids clothing, furniture, crib, shoes, toys,etc... Check out www.jbfsale.com They have consignment sales coming up in Arlington and North Richland Hills. This can be a great place to buy clothes, toys, shoes for your kids. You can also make some money from toys, clothes, shoes, furniture your kids aren't using! Some people have made a lot of money, however I usually make $40-$50 when I sell our stuff.

Get things at a garage sales, antique stores, and estate sales instead of purchasing brand new things. Buy books at Half Price books or at garage sales.

Do you have any family that can help you out? We've got assitance from family. I don't like asking for help, however I don't know what we would have done at times with out help from our famly.

If you have a home, if your mortgage payments are too high, move to an apartment or get a duplex/rental home that is cheaper for you all.

Set a budget each month and keep track of your bills, expenses. You might want to read books on jobs that you can do from home/budgeting,etc...

You could do some sort of phone work from home. Try the United Way, they run the 211 number. There are companies out there that need customer service representatives and they might need them and you could possibly work from home. I heard of one, due to my disability, however it didn't work out for me.

Do you have family nearby that could help you out with the kids? Another option is to move closer to your family and maybe they could help out more with the kids, that way you can work more and you'll have more opportunities to work outside the home that way. Good luck and hope you can find something that works out for you.
