Hello Ladies,
I am needing unique gift ideas for my husband for our 10 year wedding anniversary that is coming up in August. I've been driving myself crazy, for the past six months trying to figure out what to give him. He likes to go hunting, fishing and plays golf, but any time he needs anything or wants anything he just goes out and buys it himself, so it really leaves me in a bind to try and surprise him or purchase something I know he would like. This is a milestone anniversary so I would really like to give him something special and meaningful. He told me he is taking me away for the weekend as a surprise and he has something special for me so I would really like to reciprocate. PLEASE...any suggestions would be very helpful!!!

What can I do next?

Have you thought about looking into a lifetime hunting and fishing lic. I dont know how much they are. But it would be something that he hasnt bought himself. He might just renew his every time he needs it. This way he doesnt have to pay for it just show his card and they print off what he needs. Good luck.

What I did for our 13th anniversary might be a good idea for you two. I thought back to what dates we had the most fun on while we were dating, before engagement, marriage and kids. We always went to concerts, all kinds. It has been years since we did anything like that, so as a surprise, I got tickets for us to see his favorite band when they come to Dallas later this year. I called his mom and asked her to watch our kids, so we have the whole night.
So think back to what you guys did for fun while you dated and try to plan an event based on that. It doesn't have to be on the actual day of your anniversary, especially if he's planned something already.
Good luck, have fun and don't stress about it!!

This might be an odd idea, but does he have a really nice pocket knife? My hubby has been wanting one for a while, but we cant afford it yet. (Sad to admit when the one he wants is only about $150). Anyway, maybe you could look into something like that, and engrave it with something simple. I am sure he uses a pocket knife often in his hunting and fishing trips, so it could be a well used gift as well, that would remind him of you every time he used it. Just a thought! ~A.~

Since he is planning a get-away for you, you might file these ideas for future reference (special birthday, etc):

A big splurge would be a night or two at the Rough Creek Lodge. Plenty to do for hunters, spa-lovers, and a great restaurant!

Another fun trip, and one you might enjoy taking as a family, is going to Athens for the weekend. Lake Athens is a fun place to fish and enjoy the water, there is a marina restaurant that has a fun atmosphere, and the town is charming. You could stay in a B&B (maybe not with kids); or try to rent a place on the lake.

A really unique trip - for couples or families - would be to Caddo Lake, the only natural lake in Texas, or a combo of Jefferson, TX and Caddo Lake. Here are some places to look:

http://jeffersontx.com/ - take a steamboat or bayou tour, lots of great B&B's and antique shops, lots of other things to do. Beautiful East Texas area! This could be a nice trip even with kids. :)

http://www.caddolake.com/ - guided tours (this is an easy lake to get lost on), good catfish eating, fun town of Uncertain...

Another idea is to rent a houseboat on Lake Texoma.

But I'm not helping yet with gift ideas - so here is my best shot:

1. gift card to Bass Pro or other hunting/fishing store;
2. nice sport watch with 10th anniv date engraved on back;
3. personalized vanity plate - you can get one with a white tailed deer; a big mouth bass; Ducks Unlimited; etc

4. nice pair of binoculars or sports sunglasses;
5. GPS system;
6. beer of the month club (I did this for my hunting/fishing husband and my brother-in-law for Christmas, and they both loved it! I just did a 3 month membership.)

Good luck! And congratulations on your upcoming 10th!

You can make a fun & sexy/romantic coupon book for him to redeem while the two of you are away. It can be a two-fold coupon book too. Purchase different things that he likes, gift cards, and/or "toys" to go along with the coupon. You can have a coupon for a massage and also have the sexy massage oils to go with it, a coupon for a free day of fishing when you return to real life and have something to do with fishing to go with it; lures, new tackle box, etc. Gift cards are nice and will be easier to hide but they aren't as personal as going out ond putting forth the effort to get him gifts he will use and enjoy. Hope it works out well and don't stress too much, you are already giving him the best gift by staying home and raising his beautiful children, allow yourself to be treated, like you said anything he wants he just goes out and buys it so he is not lacking in material things.

You could look into a guided hunting or fishing excursion for a weekend.

Hi K.,

I appreciate gifts that others have made. If it was me, I would make a personalized ceramic mug, plate, or any other item you can personalize just for your husband. You can design the piece any way you'd like. There is a new place in Mckinney called "The Joy of Pottery" you can check out if you'd like. Just a suggestion. I know it's hard to get free time when you have kids. Congratulations on your 10th Anniv.

I had a jewler make a custom Golf ball place marker (small round coin type thing that they put where the golf ball is on the green to mark their spot. it is generally as small as a dime but no bigger than a silver dollar)

I had mine made out of sterling silver but you could do white gold or any other metal... I had my 3 boys initals and our wedding date put on mine with his and mine initials ( like TJA sort of intertwined) in the middle. there are jewlery students at many of the art colleges you can also check James Avery... you could also place an add on craigslist or here to see if you can find a custom jewler you like...

I don't know how "into" fishing he is, but it's a way of life for my husband. Our anniversary is friday and I ordered him the complete bassmaster tournament video collection from a private collector. If he can't go a week without fishing then this would be a great resource. It's over ten years of tournaments. PM me for the sellers info.
