MY a/c unit died in June a couple years ago and my husband was out of town - there was NO way I was waiting till he got back to get it fixed. He gave us numerous detailed written estimates (endless patience) and never pressured us to buy a particular system. We decided against a heat pump system because of the climate here (also lower price) and we're happy with our choice. Always ask for a free and written estimate (or better: quote) beforehand (two salesman tried to charge us for their "free" estimate on the day of their visit, one company wouldn't give a written estimate until we "would decide to let them do the job", one company didn't bother to check and calculate which was the right sized unit for our house. We have used Hammack Heating and Air Conditioning from Richardson (although we live in Allen). A friend of mine who works for Lennox recommended them and said they always get rave reviews. We've had them out twice-once for an annual system check and the second time for a part that went out. They didn't even charge us for the second service call (and the part was less than $50). I found this AC guy a couple of years ago. His name is David Porter and he now does work on the side as he went back to working full time. I have never been able to beat his prices and quit trying some time ago. He does all my work on 2 homes and 2 rental houses. Welcome to the club! After spending $4000 to get radiant barrier on the house (hoping to save $$$ on electric bills), we find out that our A/C is on its last legs. :-(

We had four different companies come to our house, representing four different major A/C brands. We ended up going with Frost Bros., which I think is out of Lewisville. I actually found them through this website (they do have a coupon on the "Member Perks" page).

Johnny Frost took a great deal of time with us, explained the system that he wanted us to get, and actually seemed to care about what we were hoping to accomplish with the new system. He wasn't the cheapest system that we priced, but he was in the same "wheelhouse" as the others.

Either way - not a cheap proposition. Trust me!
