Need to Whiten My Towels!
Hi everyone, I am seeking as near an environmental way to whiten my not-so-white towels. It's agonizing to pull my towels out of the wash to see that the spots where we wipe our hands is still "marked." Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

My grandmother always used to spray white bedsheets with lemon juice and then hang them in the sunshine. She swore that the acid and sunshine made dingy whites 'whiter.'
Good luck!

Hi,
I am not sure how environmental safe it is but I have the best results with Biz or Oxy-Clean.
We live on a lake and our well water is loaded with iron that makes everything dingy and red in color.
I put Biz or Oxy-Clean in every single load. The best compliment was when a mom at Taekwondo asked how I keep my sons uniform so white. With all the iron in our water I was pleased with that remark.
Good luck.

Is Oxy-Clean environmentally friendly? It works great.

LH,
I have a book on things that vinegar will do and it says that it will whiten socks, I dont know why it wouldn't whiten towels as well.
The method is to add 1 cup vinegar to 1 1/2 quarts tap water in a large pot. Bring the solution to a boil then pour it into a bucket and drop in dingy socks (or dingy towels?) Let them soak overnight. The next day, wash them as you normally would.
I don't know if it works or not, I just got this book recently and just read this hint this morning! If you decide to try it let me know if it works! Good luck.

Hi I haven't tried it yet but hydrogen peroxide is supposed to be the color safe bleaching agent in detergents. You can add it yourself and they claim it works just add 8 ounces of 3% hydrogen peroxide to your wash in place of bleaches.
God Bless
