My daughter has a bunch of old Barbies and Bratz dolls that she has outgrown and no longer plays with. She also has the houses and cars to go along with them. Most are in pretty good condition. I don't want to throw them away. Any suggestions on what I can do with all these dolls?

I've found that Women's Horizons is a wonderful place because the kids usually have to leave everything behind. Another suggestion is local daycare centers. They go through alot of toys.

There has been care packages going to flood victims. i know Rockford just had 4 flights from Angel Flight going to Iowa yesterday and there were little kids donating toys to the children who lost everything. Check the internet for any other donation being taken.

If you would like to sell them you can place an ad in the Northwest Herald free of charge if the item(s) you are selling is selling for less than $100.

If you can hold on to it till the holidays there is always some organization looking for gentle used toys.

Check with local churchs who so mission trip frequently, they may be collected items such a toys to send or take to poor areas of this country as well as other countries.

Once Upon a Child will buy them from you. Or you could try to sell them on Craig's List. We've gotten a ton of toys for my daughter from both places.

I really liked the idea of giving them to victims of the recent floods... but if you are still looking for other ways to give them away Freecycle.org is a wonderful website to help keep things out of the landfills and to do your part in being green! I have gotten rid of things from a popcorn maker, baby items, a Christmas tree and even a tuba this way! I have also been able to recieve some books and baby clothes from other FC-ers. Check it out!!

Have a blessed weekend!

I use salvation army, sometimes goodwill, and I have given quite a few things to the women's shelters. They will give you a drop place. I had a friend who worked for one and the kids loved getting toys. Just my thoughts. I have also donated items to churches too for their Sunday school rooms (K-3) maybe. Depends on the setups a particular church has

How about donating them to a shelter or a day care center. Or, go on line to ebay and sell them. Someone might want to purchase them for their Barbie Doll Collection.

Ebay or garage sale. Ebay might be easier, but you have to pay a fee & ship whatever you sell.

Sell them on Craigslist. It's so much easier than e-bay! Just bundle them together and offer them up for best offer. The buyer will come to your place to pick them up.

You can also call a local women's shelter or family safe house and see if they'd be wanted there. It will feel great to donate them!

Try your local freecycle. That's a great way to get rid of things that are good but you don't want anymore, and you find great things there yourself!

We have a place called Women Stength in our area. It is a place were women whom are abused can go to feel safe. I give all my son's clothes and toys to them. They are great people help women get back on their feet. If you have a place like that in the area I am sure they would take your donated toys. You could also check area churches that help people with little money. Just some ideas. Hope this helps.

If you want to give them away you can try freecycle.org. This is a great place to directly give to those in need (or want) of things... Good luck...

Try your local Freecycle. I put lots on there and they have to come get them so you don't spend the gas going somewhere to drop them off.

D., there is also a forum called www.freecycle.org that you can post anything to get rid of or anything that you want and it's all free. I first heard about it here on Mamasource and I've given and gotten most of the big items for my 5 month old that we didn't get at our showers like exersaucers there!

I'll buy the Barbies from you, if you're interested. (not the braatz, though) I realize donating them to the needy is best, so that should be your first consideration. Hopefully, I didn't sound like a dope! We take our many of our things to a women's shelter in LaGrange called Constance Morris House. They have lots of kids there usually and can always use the donation. OUr church has adopted them and we take food/toys/clothing there. You can look up the number online. You have to call first because the location is kept private for the safety of the women.

There are also many children who are homeless and living in shelters. There is a shelter located in Aurora called Hessed House which shelters many mothers and children who find themselves in difficult situations. I'm sure it would bring tears of joy to a mother and child.

Easiest choice is always Good Will, Salvation Army or an oganization like that. If you have the time you could always seek out a clinic or childcare center in a low income area where the kids would really appreciate them.

Go through the rest of your house and have a garage sale!! :) My mom just had one this weekend and after going through my apartment and only bringing over 2 big boxes (plus my bassinet and baby bathtub) I made $65 (of course, my mom only made $15) and decluttered my home. What we didn't sell we donated. Good luck! :)

What about donating them to the hospitals, for children suffering from cancer and the such. Or doante them to pre-schools. Hospitals, etc...Or there is a place called together we cope which is for abused wives, mothers, and children, escaping from battered homes.

Go to freecycle.org and join the yahoo group for your town (or neighboring town). Then once you are accepted into the group, post the items to give away.

Hi-
If you don't have a garage sale, you can bring them to a store called "Once Upon a Child". They will buy them from you and resell them, depending on their current stock of dolls.
Hope that helps!

One word for you: eBay! Okay, maybe one more word: craigslist.com! Either way, you can sell or give away items in good condition. Maybe sell it and share the profits with your daughter? I'd have loved some cash when my mom got rid of my old stuff!
