Need to Get Dark Red Lipstick Out of Rug
My little girl got into some lipstick. It is a dark wine red and all over the rug and her shirt. I'm not too worried about the shirt yet because I use some good stuff for clothes. The rug however, I really don't know what will take it out without just smearing it all. The only stuff I have ever bought for carpet is for pets. Also, is there any home remedy that might help? -which is what I would prefer to use.

STOP THE PRESSES! Use BLUE (yes, it must be BLUE)Windex!! To remove: Spray and blot with a clean cloth.
I had my own dark red lipstick incident (lipstick went through and ALL OVER my wash. Note: these were all the clothes I was planning on wearing for my trip that I was leaving for on the next day!). Panicked, I grabbed the closest cleaning solution -- and nearby was a bottle of blue Windex. I soaked all the areas that had lipstick, ran it through the wash again -- GONE!! ALL OF IT! No kidding!! You can imagine how thrilled I was.
Now, I use it on any red stains -- wine, lipstick, blood -- even berry stains. Note: It does not work on marinara sauce -- use Dawn dishwashing soap.
One more note: Hairspray is for removing ink.
I know this will really help!!

Carbona Stain Devils has a formula for getting it out of clothes so it will most likely work on carpet as well. I'd check in an inconspicuous spot first. There is a Stain Devil for grease, ink, red food coloring/wine, gum and many others. Every one I've tried has worked wonders. They are lined up like little yellow soldiers on the shelf in my laundry room. My favorite is the formula for grease. No one in my family can go to a movie and not get popcorn. Of course one or two pieces will end up on the lap leaving a little stain. After being treated with the Stain Devil, the stain comes out the first time, every time. It will even get grease out after something has been washed and dried (might take two treatments). These are not very easy to find. However, I can always find them at JoAnn's and occasionally at Dominicks. Good Luck! J.

I wouldn't do anything listed below. Lipstick is a completely different animal and doing the wrong thing can make it worse. Go on ehow.com and search for remove lipstick from carpet and there are pretty good step-by-step instructions. I'd paste the link for you but I can't on my phone.

I always use Oxi Clean....I haven't found a stain that it didn't work on. Just dilute some of the powder in water, spray it on, let is soak and rub it with a clean rag.
Good luck

hairspray I was told helps!!?!?!?

I would first try using a solution of warm water and a few drops of dish washing liquid. Not the creamy kind. (about 1/4 tsp to a quart of water) Apply to carpet, but do not saturate. Blot gently with a White cloth and repeat. Don't rub, the stain will only get more ground in. If this doesn't help, I use a carpet spot remover that I bought from Bed Bath & Beyond. It was in a maroon bottle spray bottle. It works wonders on dirt stains, so maybe it would be good for lipstick? be careful not to use anything with ammonia or the like in it if you have wool carpet, as this will damage wool.

Same thing happened to me on my friend's nice white plush carpet. Same color!!! She told me not to worry (like right) & she said spot shot would get it out & it did!!!!! It was down her stair carpet & into the living room!!!!! She just sprayed & blotted it up. When her hubby came home, he couldn't even tell that anything like lipstick was ever on the carpet!!!! It was a surreal experience!!!!
