Need Themed "Basket" Ideas for Christmas gifts...using LP Records as Basket/bowl

I know it may seem early, but I need to start buying my Christmas gifts now. I already have most of my daughters' gifts purchased.....except for the infamous Santa gifts that they haven't asked for yet. :)

But anywhoooo, we are traveling to MN in 3 weeks to visit with grandparents and framily (friends that are as close to family as you can get). I'd prefer to purchase/make their gifts now and take them to them, and save the money in shipping.

One idea I had was to use the LP records I have and make scalloped bowls with them (melting them into bowl shape). I think it could be a really unique and fun gift, but want to fill them with something themed.....like movie.

What other ideas do you have?

TIA!!!!

What can I do next?

Movie baskets are always fun. If you know their taste in movies, this could be easy. Movies are inexpensive at WalMart and Target (or if you have time, ebay is easy too or Amazon, etc.) I buy a couple movie sized candy boxes (like a dollar at WalMart or Target), a box of Red Vines, a plastic popcorn container with microwave popcorn and some soda pop. Voila! Instant movie night at home. Depending on how much you want to spend, you could add a blanket to cuddle in, popcorn flavorings, peanuts, chips, etc. I didn't look but Pintrest has tons of ideas. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a really cute idea. I do this with baskets every year - we have a running joke about who will end up with which basket every year. We have one really ugly one that I keep passing off but danged if it doesn't come back to me the next year!! Anyways.... I personalize each one then top it off with a ribbon.

- chocolate items or misc. candy
- coffees and creamers
- bath items - when Bath & Body Works runs their sales you can get a lot of stuff
- snacks with a bottle of pop
- wine, cheese and crackers
- candles

I know what each person likes and I've never had any complaints yet!!

Good luck and Merry Christmas!!

Since you're using records for the baskets, the most obvious theme would be music. You could expand that to entertainment - movies, theater, art.

Can you eat out of them, or just for decoration? I guess I'd hesitate putting food stuffs inside it (mostly for the grandparents) if they aren't safe to or meant to be eaten out of. But, that being said, movie packages are always cute. I like the iTunes cards too but it would have to be for someone who would use those, not sure if that fits for your family members.

Don't know your target audience, but I hate getting "stuff." It adds clutter to my life, another thing to put somewhere, dust and maintain, or to give to the charity shop etc. I prefer consumable gifts and prefer giving same. With that in mind, if you are doing home made, and movie themed, you can give a dvd or a gift certificate to a movie theater, and a box of candy or two. You could also find recipies for popcorn toppers, i.e. ranch seasoning, white cheddar, spicy caramel, that you can shake onto popcorn, mix a batch of that and include it with the gift.

good luck and happy gifting,

Could you find like a scarf or tie with a music motif to line the bowl and put tickets to a symphonic pops concert. or something local to them.

Or there's always a mixed tape, lol
