Hi Mamas!

I want to start making some smoothies that include veggies. I know there are a slew of them out there on the internet but I'm looking for ones that you have actually made and that your kids will ACTUALLY drink. I've made some with fruit. The ones my kids like have a flavored yogurt, milk, banana and some berries. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! :)

Thank you!

I'd do what you are already doing and add spinach. In moderate amounts, it's undetectable. A spoon or two of almond butter would increase the protein. Also if you could get them away from the sugary yogurts and into greek yogurts it would be healthier as well.

These may seem a little too green , but my son does like veggies.. here it goes anyway..
Frozen raspberries
coconut water
frozen acai
spinach or kale (doesn't take much) and blends in nicely... the blueberry can help mask the green...
frozen blueberries
flax seeds...
chia seeds
hemp seeds....

also,
almond milk
cacao powder
banana
fresh raw almonds
cinnamon..

lemon/lime
greens (spinach/kale)
coconut water
flax seeds
celery
cucumber

again, we do like our veggies and don't mind an intense veggie taste..

but the above makes up what we put in most smoothies..

good luck

I use a low sugar chocolate protein shake (Yoli is tasty), 1 scoop of chocolate PB2 (powdered peanut butter, or just use regular pb), coconut milk, and handful of baby spinach - my kids love these, can't even taste the spinach. I'll also do a chocolate shake with frozen raspberries and spinach. I don't use flavored yogurt - too much sugar. Plain greek yogurt flavored with fruit &/or stevia works well to get protein into the shake. You can also add tofu, it acts as a thickener and adds protein and you can't taste it.

I toss any ripe banana's and strawberries in the freezer. During smoothie time, I make our smoothies of banana's, strawberries, sometimes ad a few frozen blue berries or nectarine. I use any fruit juice I have, cranberry juice works great. Add a few spoons of greek yogurt and some honey. I have only added spinach.

If you start with about 5 raw spinach leaves, they will never know. In a few months, you can add a few more. Eventually, their pallet will adjust to the flavor of spinach. I figure spinach has enough nutrition that I don't have to add any other types of veggies.

I agree with Elaine. Just add some spinach to a fruit smoothie. Other than the color, you can't really taste it. I've added kale before, but that has a stronger flavor.

Our smoothie of choice: yogurt, spinach, frozen banana, frozen mango, and some orange juice to lubricate. Sometimes I'll add various berries or other liquids (milk or juice). But my kids love green smoothies, and other berries tend to make the color brownish.

for us, the smoothie has to taste like fruit, so mine are fruit-heavy. we also love both green (with veggie) and creamy smoothies, but are pretty squicked out by combining the two, so for us a creamy smoothie with dairy or almond milk has only fruit. greens and creaminess just don't track.
to do veggies i'll do a handful of dark green leafies (kale is my favorite) with half a frozen banana, a handful of frozen berries, and a single veggie, preferably a carrot or handful of broccoli or cauliflower, chunked up small (because my blendtec is not as macho as it's advertised to be.) i add a splash of OJ to keep it on the fruity side, a spoonful of raw hemp protein powder, and top it off with cold water.
i can't say my boys like this *better* than a creamy fruit smoothie, but it was one way to get them to get some veggies at all.
my husband and i LOVE these and drink 'em every day, although i have to add that it's usually just the greens (which i consider to be the most important component) and the fruit.

I make green smoothies with spinach. I first put a handful of spinach in a blender, followed by some yogurt, a frozen banana, blueberries or strawberries, ground flax seed, ice and a little bit of apple juice. The smoothie usually ends up being more purplish.
