I'm looking for day camps or programs for my 41/2 yo daughter whose going to "big girl school" in the fall. Most camps are geared towards children 5 & older. She is very smart(I know we all say that) & loves to be outside. I would like to have her doing activities several days a week as she is in preschool 5 days a week already & I want to keep a similar schedule going into the next school year. Any suggestions would be great!

What can I do next?

My daughter is 4 1/2. Here is what we are doing this year or did last year:

Dance camp - Alecia's School of Dance in Hixson. 9-4 M-F. It is 1 wek in June and 1 week in July.

The Little Gym Camp - close to Hamilton Place. Camps are from 9-12. They do a craft and have a snack and do gymnastics. Choose 2 days MW or TTh or 4 days

Space Camp at the UTC Challenger Center - 9 to 12. One day only for this age but you can sign up multiple times if you want.

Creative Discovery Museum Camp - 9 to 12. Available several different weekds M-f.

Aquarium Camp - M-F 9 to 12. Several weeks to choose from

Pump It Up camp - M-F from 9-1 starting in June for several weeks. I haven't done this one but I am considering it.

Swim Camp at Choo Choo Dive - 1 hour per day 5 days a week for 1 week. Focus on boat safety, swimming, etc.

If your daughter will be 5 before Junme, she may be able to stay longer for some camps. Some camps have longer days starting at 5 yrs. Good luck.

I am not really sure about the ages but I know some of the local YMCA's offer childcare summer programs, and camps you may want to check them out! I know my sisters enjoy them for her children and their about the same ages.
Good Luck,

Check your local shool where she will attend. Thay probably have a Kindergarten readiness class in June (free)and a summer program. My child goes swimming twice a week and filed trip weekly.. also fairly cheap and they are regulated by State Childcare Rules

If you're near the Charlotte area there are tons of things for a child your daughter's age- check out
Charlotte Country Day School
Charlotte Latin School
Community School of the Arts
YMCA
Charlotte's Children's Theatre
Miller Street Dance Academy
Young Chef's Academy
My Gym

They all have summer camps for your daughter's age, and many have programs around the city and not just at their place of business.

I am not sure where you are located, but I know that the Museum of Life and Science in Durham, and the children's museum in Rocky Mount have educational programs for children from toddlers up. Also, I have heard great things about Marbles in Raleigh. These aren't necessarily pre-school environment activities, but they would be structured learning activities. Good Luck! I am a 34 yo single working mother of a very bright, and active 4 year old that is starting Kindergarten in the Fall... She has been in daycare/preschool for 2 years and absolutely LOVES it! Something I have discovered for the 'writing' projects... she LOVES to 'write', and I have discovered that putting worksheet pages in plastic sheet protectors and letting her use a dry-erase marker is a HUGE hit! She gets to use a 'special' pen, and it is easy for her to correct herself! She LOVES doing 'homework'...
