So the hubby and I for our anniversary decided on getting away for one night. Mom is driving in to the burbs to stay the weekend so we can get out and get much needed r & r.
Anyways I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions on where we can go, that would be nice. We are hoping someone can give us ideas to a nice , romantic and not too far place.
I had some city friends suggest downtown chicago but we don't want to go to the city.
Has anybody been to the sybaris? I"m not quite sure about that place and how much it costs and if it is all that or just over rated. ( haven't looked into it yet)
ANyways open to any suggestions. Thanks for your help. Ahhh sorry forgot to add that i'm in Aurora and it would be a plus the closer to home the better, just in case my mom can't handle my ds.( he's been in teething hell) and we have to come home but again open to every suggestion.

My hubby and I are planning a night away. We are just going to do a little road trip. This is going to sound silly, but he has always wanted to go to Madison, so we are just going to go there. I plan on finding us a nice, romantic hotel or b&b.

Hi L....

I cannot recommend the LeFevre Inn & Resort in Galena, Illinois enough. This is my husband and I's favorite romantic getaway...for 5 years now. The view from this place is spectacular! And...we've done both things...rented out a whole cottage to ourselves and we've also stayed in their Master suites...love both of them! Our favorite romantic place to dine on the strip in Galena is Fried Green Tomatoes...their website is www.friedgreen.com Matter of fact, my all time most favorite romantic memory is sitting at one of their window seats in the winter watching the snow fall outside on the quaint street as we ate a wonderful dinner. And, during the day...walking the long, winding main street and visiting all of its quaint shops, old-fashioned candy and ice cream parlors, wine and cheese shops--and so much more-- is such a great getaway! We've sent several of our couple friends there and they have all loved it! They have a guest book for you to sign when you come and stay with them and we always look back on our past visits each time we go.

Here is their info if you want to take a look: LeFevre Inn. 9917 W. Deininger Ln. Galena, IL 61036. Phone: 815/ ###-###-#### ... Website: www.lefevreinn.com

Let me know if you have any other questions...and whatever you decide---ENJOY! :) Kimberly

The Lazy Cloud bed and breakfast in Lake Geneva is the most romantic and peaceful place near Chicago that we have ever stayed at. They have lots of different rooms to choose from which all have a large jacuzzi tub and fireplace. (I recommend the Enchanted Treehouse). You can order a 'picnic' dinner to be delivered to your room that is delicious. Check out their website...

Ahhhhhhhhhh, the Sybaris is great- from what I hear! lol My hubby and I have tried to plan it several times but always have something come up! Of course we have just tried to do the afternoon get away since the cost is HIGH!

My son just took his fiance there a few weeks ago to celebrate thier anniversay. They got a large suite that had a waterfall, pool, hot tub, private garage, massage chairs etc. They included a bottle of champagne and a pair of champagne glasses to take home. He got roses and had them spread rose petals all over the bed. He said it was nice (rolling eyes- Men!) but his fiance is still raving about how romantic and fairy tale like it was! It was very expensive- I want to say he spent close to $700 for one night on the weekend. They both agree that it was worth every penny. Check to see what specials they have on thier website- www.sybaris.com

Have you thought about going to Lake Geneva? Or maybe Starved Rock? St. Charles? My hubby and I have found those places to be nice and romantic (been years).... but anywhere we do not have kids and dogs is great at this point! I am even thrilled now a days to go to McDonalds with him alone! lmao- pathetic I know!

Let us know where you decide so maybe some of the rest of us can follow and do the same!

Hope you have a memorable and love filled night! Happy Anniversary! Blessings to you and yours!

A couple of years ago we were gifted with grandma babysitting for two nights. We wanted to be no more than an hour from home and we didn't want to go downtown (too much like going to work.) We ended up going to the Herrington Inn and Spa in Geneva (a couple of miles from St. Charles.) http://www.herringtoninn.com/

The hotel rooms are amazing - all newly renovated. Our room had a 2-person jacuzzi, huge all-marble bathroom, spa toiletries, fireplace. We had french doors opening to a balcony overlooking the river. It was the offseason (march) and I think we got a special price, so it was really reasonable (around $150 or $200/night?) but I think even this time of year it's a lot cheaper than downtown. We did not use the spa services, but we enjoyed walking around the cute little downtown and the local restaurants.

Let us know where you end up going! And have a great time.

Sybaris is awesome!! My hubby and I have been there twice, and I love it. I keep bugging him to go again. It is expensive, but worth it, in my opinion. My parents used to go when they lived in this area, and paid for a night there for our wedding night. They did the same for my sister. Their advice was to go with the swimming pool suite. It's more expensive, but that's what makes it worth it. Otherwise I think you can find cheaper places with the hot tub in the room. And to really get your money's worth, spend the little bit extra for late checkout.

Kudos to you for getting the opportunity for a romantic getaway. Depending on what you're into, there are so many options. Here's a few ideas that I've done at different points in the relationship (depending on what I needed).
Eagle Ridge in Lake Geneva was AMAZING! it was relaxing, and romantic and quiet. We really got the chance to enjoy each other without any distractions.

Pheasant Run in St. Charles is great because there's always something to do. Spa, comedy club, bars, etc.

Otherwise you can turn any hotel room into something romantic. Set up your own romantic hideaway in any place you stay. Bring candles, music, arrange to have room service for dinner and breakfast if you choose. Make sure you have a hot tub in your room, wear the lingerie you never get to wear for fear your children will you see you in it and be scarred for life (okay, maybe that's just my own fear LOL).

Or even just relive one of your early dates. My husband and I used to do dinner and a movie every week when we first started dating. After having kids, we never did that! One day he just said, "Let's go on a date," and we went for dinner and a movie. When we came home, he had sprinkled Hershey Kisses from the door to our bedroom and had a sign on the door that said, "I kiss the ground you walk on." it was perfect. A simple night but very romantic.
good luck and let us know how it goes...maybe you'll inspire some of us!

We have gone to Galena a few times for getaways and stayed at The American Log Cabins (I believe is the name). From the outside looks a bit rustic but inside was very cool. Loft bedroom plus a queen on main floor, electric fireplace, jacuzzi tub. There were trails to walk on or explore downtown Galena.

good luck
