Need Suggestions for Daily Anti-aging Face Cleanser/ Moisturizer for Dry Skin

Hey all, I have fair, dry skin. I've been using Clinique since high school but have been feeling for some time that it's not what my skin needs anymore. I need something that will clean without drying out my skin and moisturize without feeling heavy and I want to be pro-active about aging, too. I tried Bobbi brown cream cleanser and lotions at someone's suggestion, and they were okay, but not great. I'm nearly out of those. A friend suggested Philosophy. Does anyone use that brand? What do you think? Any other suggestions?

What can I do next?

Hi S.. I have used Aloette and Mary Kay over the years and they were ok. I'm using Arbonne right now and I believe it's much better than other brands. You have to order from a consultant, you can't buy it in the stores.

I'm 42 - I had the same issues when I switched over from my usual (Neutr'a)... Anyway, I use L'Oreal Visible Results - It rocks!! It's about $15, though - But "I'M WORTH IT" ... teehee - (I hope that's a L'Oreal slogan)... HAHAHA...

Just in case you needed extra encouragement - When I was getting a facial at a salon last year, the woman was lecturing me on how to stay looking so young - how things won't be the same after I hit thirty - AGH!! I was so excited to tell her I was over forty at that point!! Woohoo...Might be genetics, but I do know the moisturizer plays a part in keeping the genes looking great!!

I was told by someone that in order for your moisturizer to work properly, it helps to exfoliate before applying. I use a gentle scrub (like St. Ives apricot scrub) or Acne-free to exfoliate and then use aveno moisturizer with SPF. These products are not expensive but seem to work for me. I have tried expensive stuff and my skin always has terrible reactions. Also make sure that you are caring for your skin from the inside. Take appropriate vitamins (my PCP gave me some good ones)and drink lots of water.

Hi S.!
I absolutely love the Kara Vita line of products and have been using it for about 2 years now. I am NOT a consultant so I have no interest in "selling" you this product but I have to say that even after the first time you use the masque, you will feel an enormous difference in your skin.

I have a consultant that will do a telephone discussion with you if you have questions about any of their products and what would be best for your skin. I now alternate between the Balancing and the Purifying regimens depending on the time of year and how oily my skin gets.

Check out their website, www.karavita.com.

Take care.

L.

I also have very dry and fair skin. I just use Neutrogena Face wash in the shower, then I use Estee Lauder's Resilience Lift Extreme Creme with SPF 15. I love it!!! My skin has never looked better. I started using it when I was prego with #3 and ever since my skin is perfect. It's a little on the pricey side but to me it's worth it. If you go to the counter they will probably give you a free sample to try, but be forewarned, you won't go back to anything else!

I can highly recommend two wonderful products (I, too am fair with dry skin). The Vitamin E line at the body shop is outstanding (approx $14 for the cleanser and $12 for the moisturizer)!!! My skin looks better now than it did 15 years ago. I recently got a sample of bare escentuals new renew and reveal cleanser....it is very nice (approx $26 for cleanser). You can't go wrong!

I have your same skin type and I used to sell skincare up until last year. I still use the products I sold called Nutrimetics - it's out of Australia and I've used this line since I was 19. I'm 37 now and still look in my 20's - it's a fabulous line. If you check out my current website I have a pic on there so you know I'm not just pulling your leg. If you'd like a rep, I'd be happy to pass along a number to you. I sell luxury linens now but my website with my pic on it is www.mclark.privatequarters.net. I'd be happy to let you know what I use to help make your decision process easier.

My best friend took Philosophy Hope in a Jar SPF 20 to Israel for the summer last year and said it was perfect for her daily suncare, antiaging, and moisture needs (and if it's good enough in the desert, it's good enough in PA). It's not cheap, though (you can get it at Sephora).

A little less money will get you either of the Olay biggies: Total effects or Regenerist. Regenerist is more expensive. Either way, they have sunscreen and anti-aging. I am a big fan of the large drugstore companies' products (Olay, Aveeno, Dove) because they have huge research and development budgets, so if they say it does something, it will. I use the Regenerist serum under SPF every day (I'm oily, though, so my moisturizer wouldn't be the one for you) The Olay Age Defying cleanser is fantastic and cheap ($6 or so), I use it in the winter when I get dry. It is creamy and moisturizing but not greasy and has gentle scrub particles and beta-hydroxy for anti-aging. And of course, there's Cetaphil. Dermatologists swear by it for a reason; it's super mild and moisturizing.

I'm really in to skincare--feel free to ask more questions.

I work in the skincare industry and personally I like the Caudalie line. It's a French skincare line that is safe for all skin types, including sensitive. They have different products to fit different skin types and concerns. It is carried at Sephora. Take good care of your skin, when you're older you'll be grateful!
