Need Suggestion for Wedding

I am getting married on May 17th. It is a small wedding with me, my honey, his two kids and my sister. Even though it is small I would still like it to feel special. I would like to order a small spring bouquet for me and bouteniers (spelling is incorrect) for my future husband and his two sons and a coursage for my sister so a Florist referral would be great. I would like to have my hair done, put up maybe. It is curly and I don't want to pay through the nose for it so a Stylist referral would be wonderful. OK don't fall over but I don't have a dress yet and while I don't want a "wedding dress" per se I would still like something nice and that I may be able to wear again, any places anyone would suggest I look? And, while I am at it and asking for the moon, I would like to order announcements to send after we are married to family and friends and not sure if it is best to order that on line etc. Again, I want it to be nice and am so blasted practical I don't want to pay outrageous amounts. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh yes, I live in Melissa but am willing to shop in Dallas or surrounding areas. Since the wedding is at 11:30 Saturday morning the stylist would be best in McKinney if possible.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for all of the suggestions. More importantly what a neat experience to feel so supported from complete strangers. The wedding was on Saturday and it was amazingly sweet and intimate. We had just us, my husband's two sons, my sister and his mom. I found a dress at Neiman Marcus last call at the Allen Premium Outlets and it is something I can wear again. I got the flowers at Market Street in McKinney and a friend who does photography for a hobby came and took some pictures. I really couldn't have done it any better and I loved our day.

Thank you all for your help-

Hi J.,

A friend of mine is getting married next week, and she ordered her dress through Newport News. It's more of a cocktail dress, but her wedding will be more simple and casual. And she can definitely wear the dress again.

Best of luck and congratulations!!

I don't have suggestions on a wedding dress exactly, although you'd be surprsed that many bridal shops have very down to earth dresses. Don't cross them out just yet.

I've ordered things from www.vistaprint.com online many times and have found them to be the best deal. It is nothing fancy but a reasonable cost.

For a nice dress, I would just go to a department store in their finer dresses section. They should have a variety. And if you are on a budget, a great place for flowers on a budget is the grocery store - they do special orders and since it is after mother's day, you might find some good deals. Make sure you just go with whatever is seasonal. For announcements I would go to www.vistaprint.com. If you can design something, you can upload and get them for less than a dollar per announcement and that includes envelopes. Hope that helps and congratulations!!!

I ordered my wedding invitations online and they turned out great. Honestly, I don't remember who I used but I'm pretty sure I just googled it. Also, I've seen "make your own" invitations at Target. They're very pretty and reasonably priced. I had a friend in college who found her wedding dress at Macy's. It was a very simple white dress that was less than $100.00 I would look somewhere like that. Florist, I would look at Market Street. They have beautiful flowers and I'm sure that they would be cheaper than a traditional florist. That's what I did for my table centerpieces. I ordered the flowers in the colors I wanted and then put them together myself. As for a hair stylist, I've heard that Elena at the Butterfly Salon in Mckinney is good. I don't know what her prices are. She has ads in Mckinney Living Magazine. I also do cakes so if you're interested in something pm. Congratulations!!!

I would check JC Penny for a dress - I've seen some very beautiful dresses at reasonable prices there. As far as flowers, check Kroger - we've gotten my daughter's coursage there for years when she goes to the Father/Daughter ball. It is always the most beautiful and I think we pay about $10 for it. For announcements, you may want to check Vistaprint. They are online and they have lots of free offers. Last year I made birthday invitations for my daughter and they were a big hit. You can make a jpeg file with any program and with anything on it then upload it. One year I made magnets and the next year I made 5x7 postcards. They were beautiful and very cheap. I know you said it was going to be small, but if you want a video or photographs, my 17 yr old has an awesome video camera and would love to video it for you. He is also a talented photographer. Good luck and Congratulations!

Hi J.,
Reading your post put a smile on face this morning because whether big or small, a wedding is still a big deal. Ok, I am African American, with natural curley hair, but I wear it straight everynow and then. I have found several good stylist at Style America who work with all hair types, and styles (they have both stand alone locations & they are inside Walmart). They have really good set prices, good products. So you may want to stop in there and talk to a stylist. For the dress, you can rent wedding dresses. But if you just want a nice suite or formal dress, try Steinmart special occasion section or JC Penney...with prom just ending, and the wedding season just starting, you can find some good buys. Contrats!

First off, Congratulations! I know you said you didn't want a wedding dress per se, but if you could get one that is inexpensive you may want to. I was able to find one for $100 at an outlet in Denton Outlets. They have wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses etc... I don't remember the name of the place but they were very reasonable and in the Denton Outlets. It is a little bit of a drive but I found it worth it. Of course that was 6 1/2 years ago but the dress I got really held up well and I just gave it to my oldest step-daughter to use and it worked out well for her too. I believe I paid $100 for the dress and the veil.
As for florists there is a great one in McKinney, RainFlorist Designs, her name is Kate Dreinhofer ###-###-####
Eldorado @ Stonebridge, 7668 W. Eldorado #200, McKinney, TX 75070. My sister is currently using her for her wedding in June and she found her very nice and reasonably priced.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

For my wedding, I wore a Vera Wang bridesmaids dress in off-white; they had it as a try-on model at a wedding store. It was simple, beautiful, and very reasonable! You might try a couple of wedding stores just in case they have something similar. I also have a friend doing her wedding through J Crew; they're more than I would spend on a regular dress, but they have some really pretty ones that you could wear for a wedding for $2-300 dollars.

I, too, have curly hair, and would recommend Leslie Chenault at Balise salon on the square in McKinney. Her hair's curly, too, so she'll know what to do!

Finally, for flowers, you might try a local farmer's market. I did this for my sister's wedding (in Michigan). We got a lot of beautiful, very fresh flowers for very cheap, then did the arrangements ourselves.

Congratulations on your wedding, and on keeping things reasonable! As our pastor said to us when we married, a wedding should be a celebration, not a spectacle. It sounds like you have your priorities in order to start a great marriage!

I have a wonderful stylist in McKinney who is fantastic and reasonable. Her name is Robyn Edmonson at Salon 205 (It sounds fancy, but it's not). I don't have her #, I always just look up Salon 205 and ask for Robin. Best to you on your big day!

Goodness... we have lots of work to do! I shop for my kids at the GOODWILL on 360 in McKinney beside the SAMS and they actually have 3 beautiful wedding dresses there right now... if you want to take a look. they also get other nice dresses in there as well... I hate to share my secret but they get real nice stuff and they are picky about what they keep in that store and what they ship off to the others.

Also, I am the owner of Celebrity Party Favors, in McKinney and I offer favors, announcements, Diaper and gift cakes and chocolate favors, and invitations... give me a call I do all custom work and I can get you something in a hurry...

Another dress place to look is craigslist you can search for formal dresses, bridemaids dresses and wedding dresses see if anyone in your area has one... Dallas news online would be a place to start as well...

Good luck
