I am a SAHM of a 2 y.o. and with one income we are not exactly rolling in money. Is there something inexpensive and fun for Gavin and me to do either in Nich or Lex? I'm thinking like a playgroup, music exploration group for him, a mom's group for me (I'd have to be able to take Gavin, though), or even some type of social outing. I know about the Gymboree thing in Lex, but it's a bit too expensive. I would be open to any suggestions! Thanks for your help and God bless!

J.

Hi J., I live in Nicholasville too. We like to go to story time at the Jessamine County Public Library. We go to the 3-5 year old class on Tues. nights, but they have a class for all ages. It's free and the children love it. They have a story, song and dance, and craft. Plus afterwards you get a special bookmarker in the children's library that you get stamped each visit. After 5 visits you get a free book of your choice to keep. This next week is the last week they'll be having it until I guess January. I'm not sure. Also Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse has a really neat FREE class every other week where the children make fun wooden crafts. They get a really neat work apron to keep & wear every time you come along with cool safety glasses. Everytime they complete a craft they get a special badge that can be sewn onto the apron. You can find more information like a picture of what craft is next at Lowe's or what day & time the library class for Gavin's age is at www.lowes.com & www.jcpl.org Hope you find something you're interested in. Nice to meet you.

Hi J.. I live in Nicholasville as well. I am a stay at home mom of four children. The library offers preschool storytime on tues nights at 7 or wed mornings at 10 and 11:30. It's a great program. They sing, read books and do a craft. It's also free which makes it even better. Also, I would not try too hard to push Gavin out to different groups. Just enjoy all the time that you have with him. Also, if you have friends or family that live close, set up play dates at each others houses. That way you won't have to spend money and the 2 of you can socialize with people other than each other. I'm sure though that if you go to storytime, you will make friends b/c most of the moms that go are stay at home as well. I hope this helps.

Hi, J..
There are a couple fo moms in my MOPS group from Nich. It is Mothers of Preschoolers and we meet once a month at Tates Creek Christian Church in Lex. and everyone is from lots of different places. We have other activities through the month to get involved in also. Here's the website: http://www.orgsites.com/ky/tatescreekmops/
You could come visit next week as we have our meeting on Tuesday, dec. 9 at 9:00-11:15 with free childcare. THe kids have activities, playtime and snack. There is a fee to join, but you can come check it out first to see what you think! If you're interested, send me a message and I'll give you directions!

Also, I agree about Gymboree being so expensive, so I've just enrolled my little one in Musik Matters, and it is 10 classes for $100. We've been two times and it is fun!

I agree with the other ladies about library story times...they can be lots of fun...you can also visit a large bookstore and roam the children's section together for something different...they sometimes have storytimes too.

You can even visit the play area in the mall and meet some other moms and kids there.

Lexington Gymnastics has open gym time during the week, and they have a big playset, trampolines, jumping inflatables, floor exercise area, balance beams, and a foam pit. your little guy and you would have fun!
