Need Snack Ideas for When I Go Back to Work with Morning Sickness

Hello! I am 7.5 weeks pregnant and have been experiencing morning (actually all day) sickness for nearly two weeks. I have been OK up to this point because I can bring my son to my mom's when I feel sick, but I go back to work next week (I am a second grade teacher). I don't want to tell people at work until at least 10.5 weeks, when they will listen for a heartbeat again. Do you have ideas on snacks to have at work that won't be super distracting as I teach? An empty stomach triggers sickness every time! One thing, I have a student with a severe nut allergy so I cannot have any snack with nuts or were made in the same place as nuts. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Ginger Snap Cookies bought at the dollar store and saltine crackers we're my best friend for awhile.

A little about me:

1st time mom almost 7 months along.

Ginger snap cookies worked great for me. They can be really hard and crunchy so I would break them into smaller pieces. Someone also mentioned the preggo pops. They not only have lollipops but also hard candy which is much less obvious when you are teaching.

Another thing I found is that if I took my prenatal vitamin in the morning my morning sickness was much worse. It worked much better for me to take it at lunch or dinner when my stomach wasn't empty.

pretzels and ginger ale!

Hi S.,

I am a teacher too. A friend of mine told me to suck on Wintergreen Altoids when I had my little girl. They were my life saver!!! I had a box in my purse, in the car, in my desk at school, and one at home. They are a little hard to find, so when I would find them I would pick up a couple of them. Congrats!!!

I ate a ton of graham crackers when I had MS and cold noodles (think penne)with butter or parm if I was up to it. Good luck, I feel for you.

I am 10 weeks pregnant and have had the morning sickness to and posted a question on here. I got a response with a really neat articale about how eating kidney beans everytime you feel nausaus helps and it does. I think i posted the question last week if you want to try and find it and read the article. It was very interesting and has helped me. Plus i went out and bought the wrist bands you can wear and those do actually seem to help to. Other wise i would just say crackers, animal crackers, cheese, veggies anything to keep food in your stomach. Good luck, it is tough having to work and be sick but as you know it will get better. and Congratulations!

I was working when I was pregnant with our youngest and had that empty stomach sickness...You could try a bag of cherios or oyster crackers. I usually also ate potato chips, but those might be too distracting. Cherios and crackers are small, and you could eat them a few at a time or grab a handful when you have a moment. Plus Cherios aren't super loud crunchy. I never tried them, but maybe preggo pops might work? I just always munched all day. Good luck!

Crackers
Pretzels
Dried Fruit
Fresh Fruit
Veggies
Whole Wheat/Grain Bread
Cheese (if you can keep it cold)
Hard Boiled Eggs (if you can keep it cold)

Things that are not bite size I would just cut/break up before school so you can quickly snack on them whenever you feel the need. You will have to check the back of packages to find the brand(s) not made in the same place as nuts.

I know with me, had morning sickness all day through whole pregnancy, I had a very short list of food that I could just keep down so hopefully you can find something that works for you.

I was fortunate that my MS was minimal with my son. I heard wonderful things about Preggi Pops and bought some from my siter-in-law when she was PG. She said they worked great and ordered more when she ran out. I pasted a link below....

This is what I did when I was teaching with morning sickness -- I opened a can of Coke each morning, and slowly sipped it for hours. It needs to be flat and room-temp. If I did that, by 1:00 I could eat lunch -- or a snack -- and keep it down.

I also took Unisom before bed, which is safe, and also helped with the morning sickness.
