M.,
I have taken my 2 1/2 year old daughter to Aqua Kids in Flower Mound since she was 8 months old. She is now almost swimming by herself. I really like them and the way that they go about teaching the kids to swim. You can visit their website: www.aquakids.com or call them at ###-###-####. I know that it would be a drive for you but I thought I'd let you know about them and that I do really like them.
Let me know if you have any questions about them.

M.,
Check out the website for this family who has a swim school:
www.fwfamilyswimschool.com

A friend of mine told me about them. I too live in Southlake and was looking for lessons locally for my 2 yr old.
This sounds like a great school, but was hoping to find something closer to home.

Hi M.. I would be interested to hear what advise or referrals you receive. I have twin (b/g) toddlers and Emler unsuccesful for us as well. We're considering trying the Grapevine Community Center, we live in Grapevine, but I'm not above any other suggestions.

Thanks in advance. V.

Hi M.,

My sister actually is a Red Cross certified instructor and she works a a team leader at the Coppell Aquatic and Recreation Center. She's done this for years, but I now have a 14-month-old and watching her give my daughter classes, I have realized how good at this she is. She has private lessons through the center or she will go to your home (if you have a pool). She has students ranging from 6 months to 80 year olds. You can give the center a call at ###-###-#### and ask for Vanessa or let me know if you would like my sister's number. She is a nursing student at UTA.

I heard Emler was just stupid expensive... so I tried Southlake Carroll Dragon Swim lessons ... at the Carroll natatorium... they weren't expensive and within 1 season, he was swimming at age 5. HIGHLY recommend it!

Hi M.,

My kids have both learned to swim with lessons at the city pool by Red Cross certified instructors. Don't know if you have looked into that, or if it is available in your area. You might check it out.

Also, just to give you a little perspective and possibly make you feel better, my 11 year old was not truly comfortable in the water until he had had lessons for 5 years. I started him when he was 3 and he was so afraid of the water he would not dunk his head. I just kept working with him until he got it... several years later he swims like a fish without help anywhere at anytime. On the other hand my 7 year old took to the water the first year (he was also 3 when I started him) and swims beautifully, but it took him less time. I will enroll both of my children again this summer and this will be their 8th and 4th year of lessons. At this point their working on perfecting strokes, but it is important for me that they are proficient since we own a boat, a pool, and love to participate in water sports. One thing that made a big difference was swimming every day in the summer, either at home after we got the pool, or at the city pool. Practicing daily made all the difference.

Hope this helps, and good luck. Don't give up or lose heart because they will get it. :-)

M.-

What a coincidence! I have a great young college student who teaches my two kids (age 2.5 and 7 yrs). We are starting up lessons again in late April here at my home in Roanoke. I am opening up the lessons to other kids. Eileen charges $25 for 1-2 children in the same family for one lesson per week. They are on Sunday afternoons. I am thrilled with her and the progress my kids have made. e-mail me for more info at ____@____.com
I have another friend bringing her two boys age 6 and 8 for swim lessons too. I had another friend with two young girls age 4 and 17 mos.....she was taking lessons last season but will be in California for 12 weeks so will start back up after that.

I take my little ones to a lady that does it in her backyard pool in southlake (her street is across from the drexel heritage furniture store). she charges $90/child but i'm not sure how many lessons that is for. my children are under 3, too, so i'm not positive if the price might be different. if you're interested i'll get her contact info for you and try to find out better details.
