Hi moms.....
My little family of 4 (me, hubby, and 2 boys 2 1/2 and 6 months) have lived in Chicago for the last 3 years, and have had ENOUGH of the long winters here...it snowed 3 inches last week!!! My husband is self employed, and all work is done online, so basically, nothing holds ushere, and we are wanting to relocate to Calofornia. We arevery interested in the Lake Arrowhead area, but need to know more...hope you can help me....
I will be working 2 days a week (hopefully - am qualified esthetician and massage therapist),and will need child care. What are costs?? Are the schools any good? Obviously, we would like to be in an area with lots of families with small children. Also want reasonable housing costs. (i know, I know, and the moon and stars, too, right?)
Basically, I would like to hear from anyone who lives in the area, what are your thoughts, suggestions etc.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, L.

What can I do next?

I grew up In Lake Arrowhead! It is a great place to raise a family. Very safe, great school districts. Small close knit community. The kind of place where your parents know if you do something wrong with in 2 min of it happening. My sister is in Crestline ( in the same mtns) and runs an in home day care. She charges 110 per week for a full time spot, and that seems to be the general rate. As for housing cost you could get mid 200's up into the millions. A lot of movies stars have houses to get away. If you have any other questions let me know. Hope this helps. I moved like a hour away but my husband and i go there all the time to visit. You still get snow in the winter but i dont think it even compares to Chicago!

Hi I live in Lake Arrowhead and it is a nice place. They have excellent schools, our oldest goes to Lake Arrowhead Elementary. If you are buying a house up here it is a little expensive but contact Arrowhead Mountain Realty, John. They have a sweet deal for money back. I am unsure about childcare, I am a stay at home mom. Lake Arrowhead is a nice quaint place to raise a family, the weather is usually nice but we do get a nice amount of snow in the winter. I have only been up 1.5 yrs. Summers are great and the lake is sooo much fun. Hope this helps.

Hi L.
I live in the High Desert which is close to the mountains. I'm abot 50 min from there. It is very pretty there and it snows too. It is in the mountains so when it snows you have to put chains on or drive a 4WD. I live in Hesperia, it gets hot but it's dry and I love it. Look on Realtor.com and it will show you houses for sale and info. on neighborhoods. I hope I was of some help. M.

We do not live in Lake Arrowhead. We actually live down the hill in Highland. I have been to Lake Arrowhead and it is a nice mountain community. You will have access to grocery and all the main things you need. I know the housing prices are a little cheaper there probably 200s. Down the hill they are over 300s. Child care is kinda pricy. I pay someone $40/day to watch my little girl part-time and that is kind of cheap. There are alot of resources online now if you want to check out the babysitters in the area. I found mine on inland empire craigslist.com and she is great. You just need to be careful and screen them well. Good luck to you and your family! Let me know if you need more info or resources.
