Need Recommendations for Cell Phone Company

We haven't switched over to smart phones yet because we have Verizon and the difference would be $60 per month for my husband and I. I was just wondering if anyone has experience with smart phones from other cell phones companies (Verizon and AT&T are both much pricier than smaller companies like Net10 Wireless). What company do you go through, and what is your experience with coverage, dropped calls, and how does it work to purchase the smart phone initially? Thank you!

What can I do next?

I've been with Verizon for years and for very good reason. They have the best coverage and almost no dropped calls. I have heard many people complain about others but have never heard anyone complain about Verizon.

We have Straight Talk. They are pay as you go but you can have it automatically withdrawn from your account. They work off of Verizon's network so coverage is great - as much as I travel I've never had a dropped call or been without service. Even when I go to West Jordan, UT (that's probably pretty close to you, lol)
Android phones need the unlimited talk / text / web plan which is only $45 a month per phone.
We just got the phones from walmart, went on their website, and switched our numbers from T-Mobile. It was really easy. You can order the phones online too. You also have the option of using any unlocked phone that accepts a SIM card, it just costs $15 for a Straight Talk SIM card.

I've been with Page Plus for about 3 years now. They run off the Verizon network so the service excellent. Coverage is the same as Verizon and I never have dropped calls. I have the Talk and Text 1200 plan which comes to an even $29.95 a month. There are no taxes or any other fees. You can use any Verizon phone with Page Plus. I got my Droid off of Ebay. It was unlocked Verizon phone. I've had no issues with it. Here's the Page Plus website http://www.pagepluscellular.com/

I will second Straight Talk. We switched to them back in November and couldn't be happier. The nice thing about Straight Talk is that they operate off of T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, OR AT&T. It all depends on which model phone you buy and who supports that particular phone. If one carrier is stronger in your area than another you MUST determine whose network you want to be on and buy your phone accordingly. Their customer service rep will be more than happy to tell you which phones are supported by which network.

We went with AT&T and have had wonderful coverage.

They are a month to month and you will need to either auto refill or make sure you refill before your end date if you want seamless service.

Unlimited talk, text, internet service is $45 a month (for the Smart phones) and I believe you can get an International plan for $60 a month.

I've been with Verizon since before they were Verizon. I've been with them for 15 years? Yeah, nearly 15 years. I've stayed with them for a very, very good reason. They have excellent service, excellent phones, excellent plans and customer service, excellent insurance, and I've never had a complaint about them.

None of my friends that have other carriers can say the same. It's nothing but complaints and crappy phones. Crappy plans and really terrible service.

Example? Three friends and I had a Mom's Weekend in New Hampshire right in the heart of the White Mountains. My cell phone worked perfectly all weekend. One friend had spotty service. Another friend had non-existent service. The third friend? She had a throwaway phone from Walmart that worked as well as my phone and it was... ta da... Verizon. My phone had FREE roaming updates and boosting. The others? They had to pay for that.

My phones have never dropped calls unless I was in an area where there weren't any towers. In 15 years I can count on one hand the number of dropped calls my phones have made. And I pay less for my Android and family plan than any of my friends do.

We have AT & T. Switched to them from Sprint over 2 years ago. LOVE them. We've never had a dropped call, coverage is great, we would never go back to Sprint.

I used to have Verizon. Moved to AT&T to be on my hubby's plan. I hate it. I miss Verizon. If you don't need to switch I wouldn't. I was with Verizon for 12 year. I loved them. I've only been with AT&T for a little over a year. They suck. Calls dropped all the time.
