Need Recommendation for Skin Care for Baby

Hello Moms!
My 11 month old son has extremely dry skin and nothing we try seems to be helping. Any recommendations for a baby lotion that works really well? We have already tried J&J, Aveeno, and even some prescriptions... Please help!

What can I do next?

Have you tried just vaseline? My 1yr old has excema (spl?) that only pops up on her cheeks, causing them to crack and be bright red all year. The prescription meds and other lotions help sooth it, but vaseline is the only thin we've found that will protect it and actually reduce the redness and cracking. We do regular lotion/meds and then layer on some vaseline once the other is dry -- especially at bed time or when we will be out in the wind.

My 4 yr old son has slight eczema and we switched to all organic soaps and lotions from the health food stores. We use brands such as "Jason" and "Alba." We also use the laundry detergents that don't have dyes or perfumes and Bounce makes a dryer sheet that is unscented. If there are really dry patches, I use vitamin E lotion (also organic.)

In the process, we discovered it helps all of the family have better skin.

Eucerin Aquafor; it helps the driest most irritated skin. You can buy it at Walmart or a drug store.

Aquaphor is the best you can buy and if that doesn't work talk to your son's Peds about prescription Vanicream. My son's Dermatologist prescribed it for him when he was 3 months and it works wonders.

i have a 12 mth old little girl that has a serve case of eczema and her dermotologist tells us to at night rub her down from head to toe with plain ole vasaline and put her in sweats and a long sleeve shirt and during the day we use the creamy vasaline...........and in the time (1mth) we started doing it...it has changed drastically.....you cant even tell unless you know what you are looking for............try it see what happens

It seems like you've some good feedback for lotions, but I'd like to tell you about some body wash that works wonderful for us. Mustela is sold at BabiesRUs and some baby stores/boutiques. It is great and really helps with the ezcema that I have and dry skin for my boys.

My 4 year old has very dry skin and she used to have a dry patch right on her tummy. We use Aquaphor right after her bath, on her lips, or wherever needed. Also, glycerin based soaps (the see-through soaps) rinse off better than the fatty solid bar soaps. I'd avoid most baby bath types- too many chemicals/fragrances. Cetaphil and Eucerin are good. My DH and I make our own skin creams- mix up a batch of vaseline, shea butter, cocoa butter, Jergens lotion, and vitamin E oil- we mix it all in a bowl and refill our bottles and jars. The whole family uses the concoction. Also, I would try not to over wash baby everyday- especially in winter- just hit the critical areas (face, hands, bottom)

I rep a great skin care called Arbonne, and our baby line is absolutely terrific!! I sell it to many moms, and have yet to have some one not satisfied. Our products are botanically based, and are cruelty free (no animal testing.)

Please send me your name and address and I'll send you a free 3-day sample pack. No obligation -- I'll help you get started if you'd like to, and if not, then that's fine too.

E-mail me at ____@____.com wishes for that precious bundle!!

Aquaphor was the only thing that worked on my boys. I still use it in the winter for especially for dry cheeks. When they were little I would put it all over them after every bath!!

Hi,

My son has eczema, and my dad is a dermatologist. He told me when he was born to use nothing but cetaphil wash (or the generic version) on him when bathing him - or the aveeno baby eczema wash is ok. I also use aquaphor, atopiclair and cetaphil lotion on him. Also, our pediatrician told us to bathe/shower him until his skin is wrinkled, then put the lotion on about 5 minutes later. It really works. The other thing I've noticed is that I cannot use dryer sheets, can only use a free and clear detergent, and must wash anything new before he wears it. He still has a little eczema, but overall his skin is much better. Good luck!
