Need Recommendation for Dollhouse for 5 Yo

My 5 yo daughter has asked for a dollhouse for Christmas. At first she wanted the talking Mrs Goodbee but that seems pricey considering it doesn't have any furniture or dolls included. She then wanted Dora, but that has several negative reviews about not being durable. Then she didn't know if maybe her Barbies might like to play in it. So in short, I think she would be happy with any dollhouse. Please recommend dollhouses and dolls that your kids actually play with. Thanks

What can I do next?

I personally would suggest the Loving Family Fisher Price dollhouse. I purchased one several years ago and all 6 of my kids (2 girls and 4 boys) have loved it and played with it. We are still getting use out of it! You can purchase the "rooms of furniture" and figures separately, which we have done over the years for their birthdays and christmas. We have alot of it now and they still ask for new sets to add. Anyway, the oldest who is 13 (a girl) was still playing with it up to about a year ago. My littlest one who is 2 I don't worry about because the pieces are big enough. I highly recommend it! Good luck!

Hi C.,
We just bought a fantastic dollhouse for my daughter's birthday. She plays with it every day and it is very durable, versatile, and fairly inexpensive for the size. It's the Loving Family Grand Dollhouse by Fisher Price. We bought the Mega set from Toys R Us, where I think the price has just dropped. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3374924 . After doing a great deal of research, I think we made a great choice. Good luck!

Just a thought, but you could buy a dollhouse kit and build it with her. You'll be doing 99% of the construction, because it's not easy, but she can give her input on design, etc. Once it's done, she'll have a very special heirloom that she can pass on to her daughters. Plus, think of the great memories you'll be making :)
One of my most precious memories from my childhood is playing with the dollhouse my grandparents hand-made for me. I still have it and I'm planning on doing a "home renovation" so my 2 year old daughter can play with it in the future.
If you're looking for an easier solution, I know Little Tykes makes a plastic dollhouse that fits Barbie dolls and I'm guessing it's constructed better than the actual "Barbie" brand houses (I have experience with them, but that's another post!!).
Good luck :)

We have had the Dora castle for two years now and my girls love it. I find it very durable and they play with it all the time. It doesn't have the charm of a wooden dollhouse, but it is a lot of fun and definitely has lasted through a lot of play in our house.

We have the Twin Time Loving Family and the girls play with it daily. My oldest(4 1/2) got it for her 3rd birthday and it still is a big hit. I am actually thinking about getting the middle(2 1/2) the new Grand Dollhouse. Different stores offer Extras with it. ex.(Toys R Us gives you an outdoor playset for the dolls)

C.,
My girls have the Fisher Price one that is 3 stories tall and the sides fold out to make more rooms. It is pink, yellow and white, I cant remember the name of it but it has bee nadvertised on TV recently. My in-laws got it for my older 2 girls a couple of years ago for their bdays and they love it and each each we but new pieces and people for it. I think through wal-mart the house with starter pieces (people and furniture) was like $80, and the furniture for the rooms are from $9 to $15 and the people are like $4 or $5 at wal-mart. All 5 of my kids play together with this house, even my boys. I would highly recommend this one.
