Need Recommendation for a Good Therapist

Hi everyone,
I just joined mamasource and find it helpful already! My "Baby", who is now a 20 year old college student, wants to talk to a counselor. She's a pretty healthy girl mostly, but has had many losses in her life, including her dad in 98 and favorite grandparents recently. She also tends to stuff her feelings and has some eating issues. It's difficult to find the right counselor/therapist, so we would both appreciate any first-hand experiences or suggestions. Thank you!

What can I do next?

If she goes to Northern Kentucky University, send her to the University Center Room 300 (when getting off the elevator on the 3rd floor, turn right and schedule an appointment in the room on the left - her actual sessions will be held in the last room on the left of that hall). I've seen Lisa for my own issues and found her to be helpful; I've worked with Karen on a university committee and she's great. I also have a friend who saw Barb Sweeney, the head of Health and Counseling, and she really helped her with her eating issues coupled with the loss of her father as well.

As far as finances are concerned, they do not charge for roughly 1 session per week per semester; however they are flexible about it, so if something else did happen toward the end of a semester that she would need/want counseling for, they're not going to tell her that she has 2 sessions to work through it or anything like that. The only thing they do not really do is anything medical, so medicine and other treatments you would have to pay for, but they work with the Northern Kentucky Health Dept. to make it affordable (and easier to get for the residential and car-less students).

Best of luck!

My daughter sees Emily Roach. She's a Christian life coach/psychologist and has a thriving practice with other psychologists and psychiatrists. It's called Lifeway Counciling. They are located in Blue Ash at the corner of Kenwood and Cornell. Their # is 769.-4600. My daughter (12)has been seeing her and a psychiatrist named Kim Roebuck for several years for OCD, Trichotillamania, and Anxiety disorders. Best of luck to you and your daughter. I will keep you both in my prayers.

Every College or University has Therapists available at any time for their students. She could get in touch with the student health center for more information. If you have private insurance your company may belong to an EAP (employee Assistence Program) for short term therapy and then can be referred out if more then 3-5 visits is needed. Another option is through your private insurance there is a mental health option and you can contact them for referrals of who is on your plan. Otherwise- Dr. Rodney Vivian is a psychiatrist at Mercy Andersen hospital and has several therapists in his practice. Monica Kennedy is another option, she is located on the 3rd floor of the Mercy Healthplex across the street from the hospital and she has a therapist as well. Feel free to contatct me if you have any other questions. Best of luck!

Hi, I live in Northern Kentucky. Therapuetic Collaborative in Wilder Ky. is excellent. They have several clinical psychologists and psychyatrists. They will match her with someone who they think fits her personality. They deal a lot with people who have suffered loss. My 9-year-old went there for quite a while after her dad and I divorced. She absolutely loved it and benefitted quite a bit. Good luck
