Need Recomendations for Travel Potty Seat

Our daughter is 5 and potty trained, but for long trips we would like to have something in the car so we can 'go' quickly if needed. She tends to answer 'no' to 'do you have to go potty' and then five minutes later it's 'I have to go NOW'. sigh. Stopping by the side of the road has it's disadvantages, too!

What can I do next?

Whether or not she says she has to "go" she should TRY to go before embarking on trips. Sit her down and give her a few minutes to relax and go to the bathroom. I found running water worked as well as soft, relaxing music with headphones. At first my daughter refused to go, but then did relax enough to enjoy our car trips because she did not have to constantly rush to go potty.

I just ordered one & received it today. Its from One Step Ahead for $25. It fold down very compact for the car. My kids havent used it yet but it looks like it will work out very well for my 3 little ones.

We got one from One Step Ahead that was great. It was a fold down thing with special bags that attach. It was pretty sturdy once unfolded--stores in its own blue vinyl bag, The bottom of the bags had this folded padding so nothing splattered. I bought it a couple of years ago and I think it was around $20??. Saved us many times.

Check out One Step Ahead catalog or website they also have a store in Naperville. They have a portable potty for situations like that.

If you have a van it's a great idea to get one of those little potties to keep in the back. It takes the blue stuff that campers use and it's very handy, esp if you travel a lot. We used it for our trips to florida and never missed a beat.

Good luck!

We picked up a cheap pink potty at K-Mart (I think it was around $10) We keep it in the car and use it for car trips and camping.

Having a potty for the car is such a good idea, and it has saved my three-year-old twin boys from accidents many times (like when we go to a park that doesn't have a toilet close by). I would recommend simply getting a basic potty (it helps if you have a minivan or SUV so you can put it in the back, and your daughter can go in the relative privacy of your car). I put two plastic shopping bags in the potty (double bagging helps prevent leaks), so that when my kids are done using it, I can simply tie it up and throw it away (I do this mainly because I don't think most people would appreciate seeing me dump urine on the ground, understandably). Little kids have even smaller bladders, so I think an "emergency" potty for the car is a must.
