We moved to Austin last year and I have not been to a doctor since we got here. I recently found out that we're expecting baby #2. I need a recommendation for an OB-GYN in South Austin. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi K.: (You might want to see the similar message on 6/8/08 from Emily P.)

I live in Southwest Austin. My OB/GYN is Dr. Tara Cherry. She was my OB for my daughter and also did my surgery when I had a ovarian cyst removed last year. Great doctor, great bedside manner. Very approachable.

She works with Austin Regin Clinic (ARC) so its a good bet your insurance will be accepted. Her office is located off HWY 290, near St. David's Hospital. Regular parking lot (no parking lot charge):

Lisa Schneider at Hill County OB/GYN is AWESOME - her number is ###-###-#### and she is located at 7900 FM 1826 and the website is http://www.hillcountryobgyn.com/ I am not sure she is taking new patients, but it's worth a shot. She delivered my daughter & will deliver my twins later this year. Her office is attached to Seton Southwest hospital which I believe has the best maternity ward in the city after hearing horror stories about all the other hospitals - the nurses are wonderful & the rooms are labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum so you are in one room for your entire stay. The only downside is they don't have a NICU, so if there is a chance your baby will need it, you may not want to deliver there.

Good Luck!

You should try Dr. Asfoouri at SW OBGYN. He's is very friendly and made us feel comfortable. He was also able to get us in the same day. Their website is http://austinswobgyn.com/

DEFINITELY go to Dr. Julie Grimes. She's with the Women's Health Team. She and her husband, Dr. Mumphreys have a practice together. She is AMAZING! So personal and caring! They are located right behind South Austin Hospital in a medical complex. (oh, I can't remember the name of the street). I started going to her when I got pregnant. Now I'm switched to her permanently. I'm telling you, if you go to Dr. Grimes, you WON'T be disappointed!

Good Luck!

I had both my children with Womans Partners in Health, I love them. I had preeclampisa (sp?)both times , they were great. They are north on Lamar by Central Market, but worth the drive. The # is ###-###-####. I would suggest checking a few doctors out, have questions and figure out which one is the best fit for you. I am a die hard south Austinite and hardly go north of the river, but for a great doctor I would drive the kileen.
