Need New Tires - Indianapolis,IN

Not really a 'mom' related question, but my van (08 Chrysler T&C) needs new tires BADLY! I'm looking for your advice - what tires do you love? We drive highway/interstate a lot, so I'm looking for tires that are very quiet (very little road noise) and a smooth ride. I'm willing to pay more for a better tire (we are talking about driving my 3 kiddos around, so tires is one area I don't scrimp in). Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

We buy our tires from Discount Tire and have always had good experiences. I am EXTREMELY picky about my car and they are very respectful of that at my location.

I currently have a high end sports Michelin, BUT, I drive a high end Mercedes sports car. I love these tires. Our other 2 cars are Mercedes as well and we use the top of the line Michelin.

Discount has a great warranty program as well if you have any issues. Also, they also have guarantee with these tires. For instance, with my car and daughter's car, our 2 front tires and 2 back tires are different sizes meaning no rotation, yet the tires are guaranteed for a certain length of time.

The 1st time we bought 4 tires on daughter's car (then still mine), CLK model, we paid around $1600 BUT when it came time to replace tires due to wear and tear, they were still under the warranty and that time, when we replaced all 4 we only paid $800 due to a partial warranty being used.

I am a believer in you get what you pay for.

ETA: Momma not Mommy is correct... it is important to find a store with a staff that you work well with and be loyal to that store. You get more benefits in the long run being an established customer.

We've always gotten our tires from Sears. The last 2 sets of tires that I have purchased for my 03 Chrysler T & C have been Michelin. The last set were the Hydroedge line. They were a 90,000 mile tire as I didn't want to have to replace them as soon. I LOVE them. They ride nice and do not provide much noise at all on the highway. Sears offers lifetime balancing and rotation also, which is a plus. They really stand behind their products. Good luck on whatever choice you make.

My husband is a car guy, and we use Discount Tire. I would recommend asking for the manager & telling him exactly what you put in your post -- that you're looking for safety, something that's quiet, etc. (I wouldn't recommend saying that you'll spend more.) :) They will listen to you & recommend a few brands. Several tire manufacturers have awesome rebates (like $70!), so there may be some sale going on for the exact tire you're looking for. After you get the recommendations, just google the exact tire and see what the reviews are. You'll get a good deal at Discount tire, and they'll rotate them for free.

On a side note, we've purchased 4 sets of tires for our own vehicles (and a couple others for other folks) within the last year or so. Each set was different, based on the need for each vehicle. On a positive note, we've been happy with each set of tires, too. :)

We've been loyal Firestone customers for years. If you buy the "protection package" for the tires (about $80 when you buy a full set) it covers everything--flats, damage, rotation, balancing, etc--for the life of the tires! We've had nails, mysterious flats, and other issues--and they've never hesitated to fix any of them. Then, the one time they weren't able to repair a tire, and it would take several days for it to arrive from a neighboring state, they cut us a crazy good deal on a new set of tires (there's more backstory here, but it really was a great deal)! We have 4 vehicles and they are all tired by Firestone. The most important part is to find a store with GOOD staff! We've gone to some stores where the guys are all idiots and rude--once we find a good one, we stay loyal. They know us, and they know our vehicles.
I sure don't drive a Mercedes, but I couldn't imagine paying $1600 for tires! For the trucks, ours run about $90/each and for the cars, about $40/each.

We just bought tires from tirerack.com. You type in your vehicle info, a list of tires available comes up. They have descriptions, reviews, etc. You can also have them shipped to an installation location like Sears, NTB, Merchants Tire. There is even a way where you can see which different locations will charge for install. Usually $15 - 20 per tire.

This was awesome, because my truck has an oversized tire from what is stock. The place that I was going to ship them too it turns out will NOT put on tires that are oversized, but a place across town would for less money.

BTW, we just bought Wrangler DuraTrac for our F-150. They are rugged and extremely more quiet than what we had before. The tires arrived at the shop in 2 days from the order. Shipping was around $100.
