Need New Baby Sling for My 7Month Old

My hand-me-down sling started to rip and I am in the market for a new one. I used the sling with my first son until he was over a year and I can't live without one. There are so many brands that I do not know what one to buy. I want an easy on, easy off secure sling for carrying my 7 month old on my hip and for nursing. Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone! I decided to purchase the Maya Wrap Ring sling. So far it is great. My little one seems very comfortable and it is easy to use.

I would also recommend the ergo baby carrier because it can be used in the front, the back, the side and up to about 5 years old! I love mine for my 4-month-old. We started out using the infant insert and now he is big enough to use it without anything. He love being close to me and it is comfortable for me and my husband. It is also created so that the baby's hips are supported, unlike the Baby Bjorn. They basically are in a sitting position instead of just hanging there. Also it is designed by a mom from Hawaii, which is also where they are made. They are made out of cotton (organic available too) and there are also attachments that you can buy. I love the backpack. It's the perfect size for a diaper bag and it attaches to the carrier so you truly can be hands free.

I loved the Bjorn

I could use it for the longest time. It has double clips for added extra safe hold. Also if she fell asleep you can unhook it and not have to wake them up. It is very comfortable.

I have also heard the maya slings are good as well-however they are just as expensive. I am not sure about the safe part.

If I bought another one-I might consider one that would let you convert to a hip sling/piggy back ride. The one the lady said-I would look into that one.

The Bjorn is good until 35-45 lbs. but will not convert to hip holding/piggy back ride.

Maya's Wrap makes wraps to carry on the hip and for nursing.

I recently purchased the Ergo Baby carrier for my now 8 month old. It is awesome!!!! I can't say enough good things about it! It is a little tricky to get on at first but once you do it a few times it is great. You can also use it with your older child, my daughter is almost 2 1/2 and I use it with her with the back position. Really it is great and the only baby carrier you will ever need! It also comes with an instructional dvd (very helpful). I recommend purchasing it from www.myfavoritebabycarrier.com as the site is run by a stay at home mom and the customer service is excellent. They also offer some used carriers at a reduced price. Good luck!

I'm not sure what area you are in, but if you are in WNY, you could go to HomeGrown Baby in Kenmore. They have many different slings and you can try them before you buy them. That way you get a feel for which ones you like. Their number is 877-BABY. Hope that helps! I have a Maya wrap and a Moby wrap and love them both.

I HIGHLY recommend the lightly padded shoulder maya wrap ring sling for carrying on your hip (or cradle hold for naps). My favorite. good luck!

If you are in NJ, search out ACORN in Maplewood. Amy sells some ...and you can try them!

hi! mine are 3 and 7 months. I still use the Ergo for my 30+lb son and will with my daughter too. For now, since its cold out I carry her in a Kangaroo pouch from KangarooKorner.com. I luv luv luv the easy of both but if you like frontal or side carrying the pouch rocks. For all other stuff, the Ergo is the way to go-- definatly worth the money. Funny visual-- One day my son fell asleep and I couldn't use the stroller bc of stairs. So, I put him in the Ergo on my back, while asleep (you'll get good at it too!) and put the kangaroo carrier over my arm and carried the baby in my front. It was a little rough going up the stairs but,it worked great and NO BACK ACHE!

the ergo baby carrier hands down!! we used it until our little one was walking (and he could have fit into it after that but he wouldn't tolerate being held once he could use his feet). it's the best carrier on the market for your body, has great back support, and baby sits in their like a frog so his weight is distributed all over his butt and thighs (unlike the born which holds the baby in a parachute-like hang so all the weight is on their spine). and it can be worn on the front, back or side. i nursed my son in their all the time (from front position), i just adjusted the straps so that he sat lower on my hips. it was great.
