Hi Moms! I am at a loss and hoping that you all can help me with some new ideas for activites for my two daughters. I am a stay at home mom and would like to take my girls for new fun and educational activites during the day. I was hoping that some of you might share some neat places you've taken your children. My kiddos are getting tired of the zoo, Sea World and the park so I'd love to add some new ideas into the rotation :) Also, with the fall season starting, does anyone know of good fall activites such as, pumpkin patches, hay mazes, farms or places you can pick your own fruit??? I feel like I'm in an activity rut and I just know that you ladies can help me out! Thank you so much!!

Try Artworks Studio. My daughter was there for the S. and loved it. Friendly Staff, small class ratio and it helps children tap into their creativity. Below is the website address.

Where are you located? We have just started a new stone oak mommy/play group. The women are great and the kids are wonderful. We have just begun and everyone is welcome. We are working on some great things for mom and kids alike. Unlike many of the other groups I have been a part of, there are children ages 0-5 and lots of every age.
We will do seasonal things and misc. fun, learning things. I personally am planning to keep my daughter home for a while and want to find fun educational things to do. My daughter will be four in Feb.
We do many of the same things you have listed, but I am determined to get out of our rut also. Some of the ideas that I have come up with are:
San Antonio Children's Museum
McKenna's Children's Museum in New Bruafels
The Safari Adventure
A Pumpkin Patch that has yet to be chosen- many of them have petting zoos and tractor rides also.
Fire house- Their #2 job is to educate and are usually more than welcome to have kids in for a visit.
Krispy Kream Factory- the kids can watch the donut being made
I also want to start a kid’s craft club through the playgroup, though there are many places around town that have art classes or paint your own pottery.
There are cooking classes available also
My daughter has taken up photography, so we are starting scrapbooking with her also. She gets the craft bug out of her system and gets to practice her letters. If you or anyone else reading this is interested in the playgroup, the address is

We are going to the Magik Theatre near the Hemisfair to see Seussical the Musical tomorrow.
I also thought that Fall meant I could sow some seeds or plants bulbs with my boys so then we can see them grow over the chance of seasons. My friends did this with a sunflower and it was a big hit in their family. We'll see how our harvest goes.

Another fall activity I was brainstorming was to create a scarecrow in my front yard out of old clothes my boys have outgrown. We could buy a pumpkin for the head and decorate it with a sharpee.

I get emails from kidsoffthecouch.com. They link current of old favorite movies with activities that can usually be found in your city. It summarizes the movie and then talks about activies you can do that are related to the event. For instance, you would watch the Lion King and then go to the zoo.

Check it out. The emails are short and to the point.

Love Apple orchard in Medina, TX is a really cute place and they are having harvest activities all through October. I didn't see anyone mention the Library - usually have toddler reading time. Paint, paper, scissors is an art place on NW Military between Bitters and Wurzbach Parkway. They have classes but also have "free" art time on MWF afternoons - cute birthday party option, too.

You have already received some wonderful suggestions. These are few that might not have been mentioned yet.

The San Antonio Botanical Gardens has a treehouse exhibit going on presently. Also, they have activities for young children. You can check their website.

Artworks is an art studio that has classes for all ages. They also have open times where you can go and create at your own direction. They have three locations here in SA. There are a couple of other arts studios and clay studios that are a lot of fun.

The local bookstores and libraries have story times.

If you can pick up the recent edition of San Antonio Our Kids magazine, they have a lot of ideas in there.

Have a happy fall.

I believe the Hondo Corn Maze is open for the fall. That's a lot of fun, they have added a hay slide playground. Also, the Witte musuem or others might be good for cold rainy days. Good Luck M.

Hi S.,

Have you considered trying Divine Acres. Their Harvest activities start this weekend. They have pumkin painting, scarecrow dressing, pumking patch, hay rides, petting zoo, etc. This place is loads of fun for the kids and Mom too. Check out the details at www.devineacres.com. There is also the children's Museum in New Braunfuls. This place is so wonderful. Check it out on line a McKenna Children's Museum (www.nbchildren.org). You can also pick up the kids free magazine at any local walmart and there is plenty of ideas for things to do with your kids. I also use the Express News weekender as a planning tool. Good Luck and have lots of fun.
