My almost 10 month old is cruising a lot and standing on her own for a few seconds at a time. Walking is in our not-so-distant future but I'm having a LOT of trouble finding shoes for her for when we aren't home (barefoot at home most of the time). She is an infant size '3 Narrow/Slim'. So far I've found one single shoe in this size but its the old school white high top from Stride Rite. I will be purchasing them but would also like to find some cute, girly shoes for her. Several Google searches yielded a whole lot of nothing as far as narrow infant shoes goes. I am aware that most babies have wide, chubby feet but mine doesn't and I'd still like to find shoes for her!!! Any help is greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

I know exactly what you are going through. My daughter is the same way. She has long super skinny feet that are VERY hard to fit. When she was just starting to walk, I used those soft soled leather shoes. They now have them at Target for a reasonable price. Then when it was absolutely necessary, I went to Stride Rite for her shoes. Expensive, yes, but I believe children need a good fitting shoe. I found a Stride Rite outlet store where I could get two pairs of shoes for what one pair cost in the regular store.

I have also found that different brands of shoes fit very differently. Nike tennis shoes are narrower and fit my daughters feet. Where as Sketcher's are quite wide. J C Penney's has some shoes that are made narrower and fit her feet quite well. They are quite a bit cheaper than Stride Rite, especially when they have their buy one get one for 88 cents sale.

It is getting difficult to find her shoes now that she is 5 and quite opinionated about her footwear. It is quite a balancing act trying to find reasonably priced shoes that fit and that she likes. If they don't like them, they won't wear them! The poor kid loves shoes and only gets about two pair per season. One play pair and one dress pair.

Good luck finding shoes. I know how difficult it is.

Check out Pediped.com and onerubylane.com. My boys have small/ narrow feet too and the pediped shoes were fantastic! All other shoes, until they were 2 or more would just fall right off or they would step out of them when playing but the pediped ones were fantastic! THey are a little expensive, but after I bought 5 pairs of shoes just trying to find one that would work, these were actually cheaper! Good luck.

I feel for you. All my kids had long narow feet. Two of them still do. My poor tween daughter can't wear most of the popular styles since the only shoes that come in narrows are granny shoes. Her sister can waer just about anything off the rack which makes it even harder. Boys are so much easier; one pair of tennis shoes. When my kids were little we were fortunate enough to have a family run shoe store where I could order narrows (don't know if those exist anymore). Now we just look for brands that run narrow. Nike is a good brand for tennis shoes. I hope you get some good advice. There is definitely a discrinimation problem when it comes to having narrow feet.

My daughter has narrow feet and wore Robeez for the first 6 months after walking-- she wore a 6-12 months all the way until she was 18 months old. I think they are better than any over-priced and over-hyped Stride Rite shoes. They are just like walking in bare feet as they learn to walk, unlike most Stride Rites that can be stiff. She wore them outside all the time with no problem... I wasn't letting her walk in rocks and glass obviously since the soles are soft on the bottom. Robeez also has toddler shoes that have stiffer soles. Highly recommend them. They are available online and at Nordstrom's, as well as several baby boutiques.

We had the same issue and used Robeez. Very cute and perfect for children with narrow feet! They WON'T fall off and are best for children learning to walk & for their first year + of walking.

When my babies were ready for shoes, I called a podiatrist to find out what kind of shoes to put on their feet. I wanted to only put the best on them, so they wouldn't have troubles in the future. The podiatrist told me to ONLY put them in Stride Rites. He said that those are by far the best shoes for kids to wear. Some of their high top baby shoes do have pictures on them and some are even colored. But, when they are that little, the old school high tops are the best for them, for support, and to protect those little ankles from twisting. If you go to Anthem, they have a Stride Rite outlet store, where the shoes are a lot less expensive than at the stores in the regular malls. For now, really, enjoy the baby white, high tops, knowing that you are protecting your baby's feet and ankles for the long run. As she grows, her shoes will have more variety and will look even more girlish. Look for the stride rites with pictures though. Also, Stride Rite sells bells that slide on over the laces, to keep them tied. Stride Rite is really good about having narrow sizes.
