Need More Suggestions for My 3 Year Old's Hair

I have two bi-racial children. I'm white and my husband is black. My kids both have beautiful curly hair. I have tried so many products from the ethnic lines to the caucasian lines. I am looking for a good leave-in conditioner cream that will help define their curls without all of the frizz. I have tried many versions of the olive oil products and a couple of the newer leave ins. Using a normal kids detangler doesn't work. Any suggestions will help! I don't want to keep wasting money on products that won't work.

What can I do next?

What works on my son's hair is Herbal Essences Hello Hydration conditioner in the shower (every day or every other day) and Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Leave In conditioner every day (on DAMP hair-- it's nasty on dry hair) No shampoo at all unless he uses his hair as a napkin and gets something nasty in it-- then I use a Suave tearless with conditioner.

I bet their hair is gorgeous. My friend is anglo, but has ridiculously curly hair we have gone through products to find one he really likes. We found two actually but for the life of me, I can't remember the name it is a Bumble and Bumble product, kinda expensive, but it worked so well. The other one we found is by Garnier, you can buy it at the grocery store Garnier Fructis Style "Sleek & Shine" anti-humidity smoothing milk...V05 has a similar product, I think Pantene does to. It keeps his curls in curl form and it doesn't frizz, then he washes every 3rd or 4th day. Curly hair should not be washed everyday, you can wet it down, put conditioner in it and leave it in, then add a product, such as Sleek & Shine, wash out every 3rd or 4th day. Hope this helps!

When I got my sons hair cut last week(my kids are bi-racial too) she told me the best thing to do is mix a few drops of regular conditioner with water to use as detangler(this is what Ive been using since I ran out of detangler anyway)...she said regular detangler has so much alchohol that it does more harm than good. My son has the wildest curly hair and it works great and when it dries his curls look so cute and bouncy =]

TIGI "after party" is really good.... and fixes the hair issues which you mentioned. Here's a link:
http://www.amazon.com/Bed-Head-After-Party-Smoothing-Heal...

I also love hair products by 'Garnier Fructis'... which I have found even at Long's drugstores, CVS, and Safeway.
The one me and daughter use is: "Length & Strength" which is a weightless anti-split ends treatment & leave in conditioner.
Here is a link:
http://www.garnierusa.com/_en/_us/our_products/range-stru...

Split ends... are the major reason that hair gets frizzy and flyaway... and tangles. And yes, kids "detangler" stuff does not work.

Good luck,
Susan

I don't know of one product that'll get the job done that you want. I have to use 2 products: one as a leave in conditioner and a second product to define curls/reduce frizz/add shine. There is this creamy leave-in called Abba Moisturizing. It's gentle enough to use on a kid. Then for the defrizzing, there are a couple of products that I use. Beyond the Zone Noodlehead curling cream is available at Sally Beauty Suppy - comes in a tube. It enhances curl a lot. If you'd like looser curls, there's a gel called Kinky Curly that you've got to get from beauty stores that does the same without as much tightness of curl. Neither creates curl out of thin air, but both take generically curly hair w/some frizz and helps enhance it to defined curl with more uniformity. Neither makes your hair crunchy either. One last technique is to top it all off with Wave Nouveau Moisturizing Mist. It will not leave behind any greasiness, but keeps hair almost as soft as it is when it's wet, even after hair has dried.

I second what the other person said about not washing too frequently (common mistake - black hair doesn't oil up much on its own, needs added oil it's so naturally dry and non-greasy).

Most of your solutions are going to be a little pricey, and most will contain some type of silicone-related thing - it's a great de-frizzer. But without the leave-in, the silicones dry out your hair long term. I'm not a big fan of Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding because it's expensive AND has a strong mint smell that's obnoxious, although I heard that made a special low-scent formula for babies. There are lots of products, but you're going to have to go to a good beauty store, not just Sally's, if you want advice. The higher end beauty supply stores usually have a whole section dedicated to curly hair products (Miss Jessie's, Mixed Chicks, Kinky Curly, etc) for people of all races. Since all of us (black and white) are a bit mixed, it's hard to find the exact products to control your particular mix of curl. Also, check out naturallycurly.com. It's got a great forum.

My daughter is about to be 4 and she has VERY curly hair. We have spent a lot of money on products to only find they don't work on her hair. I recently thought I would just try something different to see if it worked- and it did! I wash her hair once a week with normal shampoo and conditioner (adult version, not the kid's formulas). Then, when I don't wash her hair, she has to get it all wet anyway. I found that her hair has been very tame since then and the curls look great!

Go to a hair salon that you like or trust, if you don't have one ask someone who does. Explain the situation to them and they will probably have just the product for you to try and use. You might try looking on the internet as well. And sometimes the cheaper products are the best! Good Luck and hang in there, wait till they want it all uneven, or green or who knows what else kids will do to their hair next!

I have naturally curly hair and have found that regular conditioner works great when I leave it in. I still use it in the shower but I also use it with gel to help my curls form instead of having frizz! Tressume moisturizing conditioner works great and so does Frutics Sleek and Shine.

My daughter and I both have naturally curly hair. I "wash" our hair with Suave Coconut Conditioner. Use lots of it and with water and it will suds up like shampoo, (I got through 1 15oz bottle every week and its only 1$) rinse well with warm water then I do a cold water rinse. After towel drying (don't rub...squeeze or pat most of the water out). Apply the Gariner Sleek and Shine leave in conditioner. I have noticed that we both have less tangles, less frizz and our curls are much nicer.

good luck!
