Need Infant Swimming Lessons

I took a Mommy and Me swim class at the Crown Point YMCA - a bit of a drive for you, but we had a blast. You might want to check into the Hammond YMCA, it's closer to you.

I happen to be the teacher for a parent/tot swim class. I live in Homewood and drive to a pool close to the Museum of Science and Industry every Tu at 9:30. There are 12 centers in my grouping. The one here in Flossmoor did have one at Governor's State several years ago, but since I work at Hyde Park, I'm not sure if they still have it. The other place that used to have good classes was at Mann Park in Hegwish. That would be closer to you. It is a Chicago Park district pool - 130 and Carondolet, I believe.
It does take almost 40 minutes to get to my pool. You are allowed to come for a trial if you wish. The next grouping starts Mar 25. I am off until Tue. You can call work for more info if you wish. Hyde Park JCC - ###-###-####. I am T. - a 60+ Grandma, who has been teaching swim/gym for over 30 years and still don't think it's boring. Just ask for me - that's all I go by for a name. I took my son to the park district pool in Park Forest for lessons. Try the PD in Lansing. If not there, then contact the town hall and see if they know of someone.

I take my daughter to Omni 41 on Route 41 in Schererville, IN.

I also live in Lansing and I would try the Eisenhoser center (lansing's rec center) I know they give swim lessons, but don't know what ages they start at. I hope this helps.

Have you tried that Patti's all american gym or whatever it's called on 41 in Dyer? It's not to far from Lansing. Also I think the Lan-Oaks park district place may offer lessons.

Depending on when your daughter's birthday is, Patti's All American in Dyer, Indiana has swim lessons. Your child has to be 16 months old to join the class. I have taken my son there every year for the last 3 years and he loves it and I am happy with what he has learned. Most of the local high school aquatics departments (Lincolnway Central is the best in my opinion) offer mom & tot lessons until they turn 3 then they can start independent lessons. Other than that there's Lifetime Fitness in Orland. Keep in mind that at that age, it's just pretty much getting them comfortable in the water. Kids normally aren't ready to swim until the age of 3. As a swim instructor, many parents tell me that there 1- or 2-year old loves the water and has no problem go under. But kids that young don't realize the dangers of swimming. Sometimes they get spooked (often by accidently attempting to breath underwater) and later become terrified of the water. Once a child that age has a scare, it can take years to get them comfortable again. So I wouldn't push it too early.

Were you looking for something "now" or in the summer? If you're waiting 'til summer - the Aqua Center in Park Forest.

My kids were taught how to swim and dive very early here! Such loving, amazing folks. Very much a summer family of ours! You will feel EMBRACED, no kidding!

My son will be starting Junior Lifeguarding here this summer and for years we've watched all the new little swimmers have so much fun learning, even when they started out with some fear.

J., I think you'd be about 15-20 minutes away. I was just at a wedding reception at the Serbian Social Center 2 wknds ago and that was about my drive time.

I don't know if you have to be a resident of Munster or not, but they do lessons at the Middle School -- not sure when it starts. They do lessons at the YMCA in Hammond and also at the Ogden Pool (old YWCA) in Hammond - near St. Margaret's. Patti's All American on Route 30 in Schererville/Dyer and Omni 41 Fitness Center.

Hello J.: Infant swimming in Lansing, IL - go to the Eisenhower Center, just off of Torrence Avenue, across from Lan Oak Park. Sorry, I don't have the address or phone, but at least you have a start.

I take my daughter to Pattis all american in dyer they have a great program!

J. - I've had really good success with two different programs. I did mom and me lessons with my older daughter at Mann Park in Hegewisch and it was a good time. They currently have some really good guards. We do a homeschool class there on Friday mornings that they may let you join. We don't have any children that young, but if you give them a call I'm sure that you can work it out. It's close to Lansing and really inexpensive. I've also done lessons at the Whiting Community Center in Whiting Indiana. They are a little further for you and a little more expensive, but are awesome. I'd recommend both highly.

The YMCA in Hammond on 7322 southeastern ave in Hammond for sure has them. ###-###-#### You can also try Eisenhower in Lansing,but I think they start at 3.Munster Parks also does them. Inside at the middle school then outside at the pool in the summer.K.
