Have you tried Target? I have seen some standard ones there, (inside the store), that aren't girly. :-)

K.,

I love this gender neutral one from Constructive Playthings:

http://www.cptoys.com/school/default.htm

It's an island design. Search website if link doesn't work.

Good luck.

Step 2 www.step2.com
It's where we got my son's for his 2nd birthday. It's neutral -- beige and green and ivory and comes with some basic dishes. We like the Melissa and Doug play food the best. Also, if you'd like to get him started on really using kitchen stuff Pampered Chef and Tupperware both have some great cooking utensils etc for kids.

Hi K., Toys R Us and Walmart both carry play kitchens. There are several that look boyish, Walmart has a really cute one with Elmo on it.

I have heard that IKEA is coming out with a play kitchen (in a light wood color), although I'm not sure if it's available yet. They also have great & inexpensive kitchen accessories...pots, pans, kitchen utensils, etc. that look like the real thing.

Wal Mart has a stainless steel pot set that would look great in a restaurant kitchen.

As a teacher I love the food at Lakeshore(www.lakeshorelearning.com). You can sign up for coupons to shop online or the store on the tolroad, north of the Galleria.
I can't stand the $10 bulk food. Its tiny and it is flat in a week.

U.S. Toys Constructive Playthings has several non-gender specific kitchens for much cheaper than Pottery Barn Kids and Lakeshore Learning. They have a store in Plano.

Target had one that my son loved and wanted. We never got it and I haven't been there in awhile, but it was nice and not very expensive. They also had a ton of great foods and dishes that were reasonably priced. Good Luck! If you need the grocery cart from PBK, we have one that I'd sell. And, we have some of the PBK food that is barely played with. And, we have a cash register. I'll give you a deal. :)

I bought one for my son when he turned 4... maybe 3... I can't remember...but I just got mine from Toys R Us ... maybe Wal-Mart. I think it was Wal-Mart because they did shipping to the store for free (saved $$$).

I got one for my son at Toys R Us, and got tons of plastic food there too. Another place for food is some of the educational stores. There is one by Galleria that I am forgetting the name of, but they have toy food I am sure (Lakeside Learning or something close to that).

I have 2 boys- 4 and 2 1/2 and I got one online at Wal-Mart and did site to store shipping so it was free. I got the plastic food at Target. It was a whole box full for $10. Our kitchen was very inexpensive and still works great. It was a Step 2 brand and the burner makes noise and it came with pots and pans. Good luck and I hope he has fun playing with it!

We got our daughter a kitchen at Walmart for Christmas. It is green and brown and white so it would go for either a boy or a girl. It has held up really well. She loves it. the stove part makes noise, it has lots of "cabinet space", an oven, a microwave and a play phone for those call in orders. She has a great time with it.

Pottery Barn Kids are pricy but very n ice! I ended up getting my son one at Toys R Us that was cream and purple ( at least it was not pink) His dad is the chef in the family so it was natural for him to want to be pretend cooking.
Honestly you can make one from cardboard boxes ( tv and refrigerator boxes) and that would be a lot more fun for the two of you. Take a fridge box and turn it horizontally and you have the "sink" and the "cabinets". You can hit one of the moving stores and get boxes.
Fake food is always at the toy stores.

You never know what Ikea is coming up with so have a look at their site as well.

My kids love the Elmo's Resturaunt. It has money, food, a menu, spatula, plate, utnesils, the works. It even talks. The ages are a little young, but the older kids I have had older like to play on it too. You can find it at any Walmart or Target, i believe it's by fisherprice.

I have seen one at Target that is really cute, wooden (tough) and neutral colors. They also have the pots and pans that look real. Way to nurture your child's dreams!

If you are looking for a wooden kitchen, I highly recommend Kid Kraft. My daughter has a wooden kitchen she got for xmas and it is the sturdiest and best made product! Of course it came in 34 pieces I had to put together, but it was so worth it!

This one is red:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3555680

or silver:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3408514

or primary colors:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3152565

If you like plastic then:

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2316877

Toys R Us also has a bunch of different pots and pans in gender neutral colors.

Check out Constructive Learning Things in Plano. They have wonderful playfood that looks real. They have sushi sets, separate sandwich items so that you can create a sandwich to order, breakfast plates and dessert items. They have an online catalog at www.constructiveplaythings.com I did a quick search and they have a very masculine kitchen available in royal blue. They also have a BBQ playset that is very boyish. Happy Birthday!

Melissa and Doug toys have lost of cooking things for children and I believe they carry a kitchen. I know that when my daughter sold those toys, we had some very cute pots and pans, pizza makings, and play cookies etc. Their price is good too.
