Need Ideas for Weekend Family Getaway

We were supposed to go to Wichita this weekend, but it fell through.

Since we were all excited to get out of town we still want to go somewhere, but where?

What do you recommend that's within about 5 hours drive from here and kid friendly (ages 4 & 6)?

We stayed at these cabins a couple of weeks ago. You'll need the big cabin. I hope it is available. It just a nice place to relax with the kids. Take the kids bikes. There's not a lot of activities to do but explore outside. You can fish!

Hope you have a nice get away. This is an 1 1/2 from Flower Mound.

We always had fun in San Antonio with the kids. . . you can spend as little or as much as you want.

Another fun weekend was to rent a cabin at one of the state parks either here or in Oklahoma (Beaver's Bend is pretty and lots of hiking/outdoor stuff to do)

I agree with the Great Wolf Lodge idea. It is well worth the money and think about the time and money you will save on gas alone? We went for one night in December and wished we stayed for two. One word of advice, you can go at 10am the morning you are supposed to check in (bring a bag of clothes to change into to store in lockers)and stay until 10pm the day you check out. You probably will not use all of this time because you all will be exhausted!

I've heard the new Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine is a blast for families and they are offering an introductory rate of $99/night. The big attraction there is a huge indoor waterpark.

Sea World is in San Antonio, I think it's about a 6 hour drive. I haven't been there myself, but we were planning on going with our 2 year old soon. Also, there is the riverwalk, where you can ride on those boats, so that would probably be fun for your kids, too. Hope you find somewhere fun to go!

I'm a Silverleaf Resort Owner and we love going to their resorts on Lake Palestine, outside of Tyler...about 2 hours from DFW area. They have tons of activities on site...sand volleyball, tennis, hiking areas, game room, movie room, putt-putt, horse back riding, a marina with rentals and freepaddle boats, a brand new indoor water park, and more. I can get you a free 2 nights stay if you don't mind going through their tour...includes either breakfast or lunch...worth the time...if intersted, give me a call - ###-###-#### or send me an email - ____@____.com - I just took my son there a few weeks ago when my husband was out of town...we had a blast!

San Antonio, Austin. We also go to Glen Rose on day trips. We either just go for the day, or if my son gets really tired and fussy we stay at the Nest Western Dinosaur Valley Inn and Suites. http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/productInfo.do

We were just in Houston for the weekend 2 weeks ago with our 2 year old, it's about a 4 hr drive from DFW. They have a WONDERFUL Children's museum and there's a train that runs from downtown to the museum campus. There's also the Johnson Space Center and with the space shuttle on a mission right now it's even more interesting. As far as Sea World San Antonio, I believe they are closed for the winter if I remember correctly they close Jan & Feb.
