Need Ideas for Displaying Christmas Cards.
Every year, I have the same challenge. I am hoping someone out there is more creative than I and has a great idea on how to display all the Christmas cards we get in the mail. I love to be able to see them all, but in a decorative way :-) Thanks in advance! Merry Christmas to you all!

Maybe someone has already suggested this, but one year I took a long red cord and draped it like a clothesline. Got pretty little clothespins and displayed all of my cards.
Merry Christmas!

I saw a neat idea in Pottery Barn Kids mag, similar to April J's suggestion with a rope and clothespins, except it had hanging from the rope/string felt candy canes, with the clothespins attached to the candy cane, then clip the cards on. Just a little extra decoration that I thought was cute.

We pin about an 8 foot piece of ribbon on the wall side to side above the couch and just hang the cards over it as they come in. There is no damage to the cards, and you can take them down to read them. If we need more space we just put up another ribbon. You can cover the pins using bows and things if you wish. It's cheap and pretty!

The Better Homes and Gardens magazine for this month had a cute idea that doesn't take up much space. You get some small tree branches (about 1.5 feet) and put them in a vase like a flower arrangement with stones or pebbles or whatever in the base. Then you take little colorful clips and you clips the cards to different parts of the tree branch. You can also decorate the vase or tree branch with ribbons, small ornaments, etc.
I looked for a picture but couldn't find one, sorry!

Great question! I haven't received any cards yet, so I haven't thought about how to display them. I will probably clip them to garland that I'll wrap on my bannister. I liked whoever had that idea! Oh! Here are some awesome clips you can use to clip your cards to the tree, or a card to a gift, etc. Check 'em out! I use 'em and they're great!

I ran out of room in my apartment last year so we taped them to the back of our front door. My two year old loved having them there. He loved to look at them and seeing all the picture cards of family that's far away helped him learn faces and names.
It also helped brighten up that big bare space that the door creates.

I hang a wreath on large blank wall in our entry and when the cards come in I tape them around it. The wreath is the decor till the cards come and then it is the centerpiece and the cards surround it.

Are you familiar wit Southern Living at Home? They have a new product that's beautiful. It's called the "Decorative Card and Photo Display." Many customers have ordered one for the holiday season. You can go to www.southernlivingathome.com, click on catalog, and see it on page 57. It can be hung on the wall or over a door.
I love it!!!
If you're interested, please let me know. I'll be glad to help you out.

Punch a hole in each card and string them with ribbon--hang around the top of the room all the way around like streamers or garland.

Spray paint clothes pins. Attach your cards to garland with the painted clothes pins. Hang the garland on staircase, around a door or doorway. I have a great card weath that I got at the Container Store years ago. It holds about 30-40 cards. I have also gotten card holders in catalogs in the past. A friend of mine does the garland idea.
Good luck!

I saw on Good morning Texas a way to display Christmas cards. You get one of those metal picture holders with lots of arms. I can't remember what they are called though. You can put a bunch of cards in where the pics normally go. I thought it was a awesome way. Good luck.

My in-laws tape them to their kitchen cabinet doors. They do the same with birthday cards, get well cards, mother's/father's day cards. It's fun to peek at a few when you're helping fix a meal!
When I was overseas for a year, my roommate and I taped the cards to the wall in a Christmas tree pattern and put our gifts under the "tree"!!!!
Fun question!

Home Depot had a velcro set that was really neat. You put the velco strip up on the wall (or wherever). And then you attach the other side of the velcro to the back of the card and stick the card to the strip. That way they can be removed to read and then you can put them back
Instead of putting it on the wall, I put mine on the side of the staircase to the second floor. There is wood trim/baseboard type trim under each stair. Since it's painted a high gloss, the velcro sticks nicely, and removes later without removing the tape.
When I was in my apartment, I had a bar/high counter separating the kitchen from my living room. I hung them on the edge of that, since I didn't have stairs there.

I plan to do what my mother in law does - I think it looks really neat! She hangs a string from her mantle above the fireplace (from one end to the other, hanging over the edge as far as you like). Then she uses clothespins (these can be decorated easily) to clip the cards to the string so they hang in a bow. It's really pretty. I'm sure you could do the same thing somewhere in your living area if you don't have a fireplace/mantle. Maybe a window or two? Hope this idea inspires someone as it did me!

We put ours in our tree. We decorate our tree like normal, and as each card is received and read, we find a place in our tree and stand it there. It looks great!

I like taking a semi thick rope and close pins and string 3 ropes above the mantle and clothes pin the cards to the rope... string them across the middle of the wall or brick about your fireplace the shortest on top to the widest on bottom...you can paint the clothes pins red or green or both and maybe even hot glue a large xmas bulb onto the clothes pin...

Glad to hear you are a stay at home mom. a person misses out so much, they grow so fast. Now to the display. I've saw them strung like garlands across the ceiling, from one corner to another. Propped up on a buffet, or piano, and of course in a long narrow basket, and you could alternate what was on the front row.

HI S. -
You have a lot of gret ideas, but mine is a little different so I thought I would share. A couple of years ago I had my husband drill some holes in a couple of pieces of wood and I bought some wire at Home Depot. I cut the wire into several pieces and curled the end up several times so that the cards would fit into the curls, and I stuck the other end into the holes in the wood. I made them several different heights so that I could fit a lot of cards, and I have them displayed on my mantle, covered in garland because the wood isn't so pretty.
I'd be happy to send you a picture if you would like, when I finally get all the decorations out... I dread the set up and take down!!

I get so many photo cards every year, I had to come up with some way to display them all, so I purchased some wide Christmas ribbon and secured it with a thumb tack to the top of a closet door in my entry. I use double sided tape to secure the photos to the ribbon. The ribbon hangs all the way down to the floor, almost, and will hold about 10-12 cards depending on how they are arranged. I put a second ribbon on a coat closet near my living room. I love the fact that I can look at my cards anytime and it is very easy and inexpensive to put together.

Get colored ribbon and attach to the top of your drapes or window treatments. Make them different lengths and pin or staple the top of the card starting at the top and coming down with a little space between them. Do it across the drape or top of window so that you see several ribbons with cards at a time. This is very vestive and pretty.

This year in my foyer I hung those easy to remove 3-m hooks and tied a pretty ribbon (to match my Christmas decor) to them. It looks like a garland. I will hang the cards on the ribbon with clothespins I covered with christmasy wrapping paper-but they could be hung with paper clips or just stapled right on.
Can't wait to hear other peoples ideas.

Take a long christmas colored ribbon and hang vertically with a bow tied on top. You can staple, hot glue, or paper clip cards to the ribbons. I tried tape once, but they kept falling off the fabric ribbon. You might put ribbons on both sides of a door way for a neater affect.
