Need Ideas for Christmas Gifts for Girls

For our daycare Christmas party my 2 boys drew 2 girls names. We have an 11 1/2 year old and 6 year old girl. I have young boys so have no idea what girls like and what is age appropriate. Our spending limit is $5-8 - which makes this even harder. Please any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for such great advice. I actually went to Toys R Us today because they were having a big sale. They had some littlest pet shops on sale that looked really cute. But I ended up finding a Color Explosion 4 poster Set of Princesses. It's age said 6+ so I got that for the 6 year old. I thought it looked funner for her.

For the 11 1/2 year old I got a set that had lip gloss and nail polish in it. It came in a cute little bag.

For the 6 year old I would suggest: Littlest Pet Shop or Polly Pockets - both you can get some fun little things for $5 at Wal-Mart. Especially since you are puchasing from boys those are "safe" gifts! :-) Books are also a great idea at any age - for the 6 year old I would Junie B Jones or Pony Pals would be fun ones for her to get. Good Luck!

Jewelry (bracelets or neclace) or Webkinz would be great for the 11 1/2 year old. I think Webkinz for the 6 year old would be good too. I think they hae smaller webkinz that do not cost as much. At least they use to. Also, for the 6 year look at Crayola or arts and crafts. They will love anything you get them.

I don't know if you are a black Friday shopper but there are tons of cheap deals for little girls! Most little girls are into Hannah Montana or High School Musical. Walmart has dolls for $5 on BF. If you don't know if they would like these, things like art supplies or books are always great. With the older girl maybe bath & body products? Walgreens has $1.99 body butters in their ad. Just some thoughts while I'm making my own lists!

Since the kids are in your daycare, do you know the moms? Could you just approach them during pick-up or drop-off time and ask what kinds of stuff the gals like? Or could you call the moms? Good luck-

For either: warm fuzzy socks, a pen and little notebook, stationery, hair barettes, scarf, mittens, movie theater pass

If there is a Creative Kidstuff close by, we have found interesting and inexpensive gift items for kids there.

I would stay away from make-up, nail polish, and "branded" items

(I have a goal not to give one dollar to the Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana empire, but that's just my opinion)

At that price I would make it simple like art supplies. Coloring books, crayons, construction paper, stickers. They have lots of different kits and prices. My daughter is two and she will be getting some of that stuff. She can not go a day with out art time. Some thing else would be dora books or something like that and for me it is nice as a parent they get something educational and they enjoy.

For the older girl, a crossword puzzle book (age-appropriate) and some cool pencils. Or how about some gourmet hot chocolate mix and a cool mug. Or a cookbook aimed at young women. Or some stationary. I would advise against any clothes, jewelry or make-up. That pre-teen age is really tough, and who knows what she is "into" vs. "not into".

For the younger girl, Christmas-themed socks, or a scarf or hat. An old-fashioned jump rope. Board games, if you can find them in that price range.

My sisters are that age and they both love HS musical (sometimes you can find jewelry/watches at wal-mart cheap). My 12 old sister also loves bath stuff/lip gloss (you can get small sets pretty cheap-- bath and body works sells gift sets). My youngest sister likes littlest pet shop, polly pockets or puppy something and small sets are about 6 at walmart. If you want to go for a little bit more expensive for 10 you can get a lil kinz and those are great for both ages.

whenever my daughter had to buy for kids we don't know well, she would give neutral gifts like free passes to the movie theater or mcdonald's or something like that so any child of any age and gender would be able to use it.

stuffed animals are always a safe bet. And you can usually find them cheap if you look close enough. Also, little nail polish sets might be nice.

Go shopping Day after Thanksgiving!!! Tons of stuff super cheap.

Purse!!! (always popular with my daycare girls!!!)
Pillow and slipper sets.
Littlest Pet Shops.
Lava lamp.

Ask your daycare provider to have all the kids make a "wish list" with 2 or 3 items each and hang it by the door. That's what I did for my daycare. We always did a $12 to $15 gift and had ideas for those who were stuck as to what to get....

11 1/2 year old: small photo album, hair accessories (barettes, headbands, pretty ponytail holders, etc.), cool pencils and pens for school, holiday socks, leg warmers!
6 year old: same as 11 1/2 year old and maybe littlest pet shop toy (they are cheap and pretty much every little girl loves them!)--I have a just-turned-8-year-old daughter!
Good luck!

I LOVE the idea of a small photo album, maybe with a disposable camera - Cheap and easy to operate, and will give them projects to do putting the photos they take in their new albums

I would say Polly Pockets for the 6 year old and nail polish and lip gloss for the 11 year old.

Hanna Montana is really popular and I know that the day after Thanksgiving, WalMart is going to have some of the Barbie type Hanna dolls for 5 bucks.

I am rather conservative when it comes to gifts. As a teacher and a mother, I highly prefer something educational or something that inspires creativity. I suggest art supplies or a fun book. I would personally stay away from sensational things like Hanna Montana. I would also not be pleased with make-up for my 11yr old daughter.

You've gotten a lot of great gift ideas! I would add a journal and pen to your list. My girls love these and can never have too many!

I would hit the Target dollar section. There are a LOT of cool things there. At least I think so. Anything on the girlie end would really work. Hope that helps!

I love to give books to kids of all ages. I think a gift card to a local bookstore is fun. My nieces and nephews love to get the card to go and pick out the books they want. It's like a mini shopping spree and what girl doesn't like that.
