Hi Moms! Help! I never play group games and I have to think of a few fun things to keep the kids occupied. My daughter is turning 5, and there will only be a few other kids there. Maybe a few simple things like pin the tail on the donkey or musical chairs. Arts and crafts? Do I give each kid a little bag with treats? Any ideas or experiences shared would be greatly appreciated! I will have the help of her daddy, my sister, one set of grandparents, and a few adult friends of mine. So far I got the cake, pink balloons, way too many presents, and my house clean. Her "big party with ALL her friends" is thankfully in the nursery school and her big present from me is tickets to the nutcracker ballet. This "little" party is really no big deal. But what am I gonna do with all those kids? Thanks in advance! I heart mamasource!

What can I do next?

Do you have theme? That is the easiest way to decide on games. Micheals has lot of fun foam kits that are easy to do and can serve as the parting goody. familyfun.com and birthdayexpress.com have lots of good ideas.

First of all take a deep breath and relax. You have the makings of a fun day or a heart attack. have fun. More or less she won't know. She will remember you had fun. If you want to have a bag for each person that is good just don't give it to them until they get ready to leave.
Decide on which games . you hav e Musical chairs that is always fun. it will last maybe 20 min depending on how many kids you have. Are you having all girls or having some boys too? Boys will change the dynamics of the party. Don't subject yourself to arts and crafts that is way to involved for a small party. You could do pin the tail too . Go to a party store thay have the games in bags now. Don't do too much .. play the games, open the presnets, play music, eat let them dance and tehn give them hugs and send them home. Have fun yourself too.

My advice is don't over-plan. A few simple games and a craft should be fine, and don't schedule the party for too long--a couple of hours is long enough. Musical chairs or pass the potato is fun, as is pin the tail on the donkey. You can get some easy crafts at the craft store. My daughter's birthday is around Halloween and I found these foamie Halloween characters that the kids just had to glue together and there were like 48 in the box! Everyone made a bunch of them. If you have time left over you can always read them a story, or just put on some music and dance. As far as goodie bags go, I hate it when my kids come home with a lot of junk. You could give out a little gift certificate for ice-cream or a smoothie tied to a balloon instead. My kids will play with a helium filled ballooon for days!
