My neice who will be turning 7 moved to Florida a year ago is comming to spend a month this summer with our family. I want to her to have a party here so she does not miss out. I do not have alot of children her age to invite. What kind of things do you think Her Uncle and I can do for her to make her day special?

What can I do next?

Is she very girly? Libby Lou in Natick has a great (but expensive) party for girly girls. It's about $20 per kid so I'd stick with 4 girls her age which works out if you don't know many kids her age.

How about a hike and have a scavenger hunt while they are doing this. If she lived her before she left maybe you could get a hold of her old friends and have a sm bday party for her. You could do Canobi lake park in Salam. Good luck

Hello S.,

Just take her and the family out for the day and if it works ask her what park see would like to visit, and try to make the day all about what she wants, maybe go out to eat at a resturant, and after the meal have the waiter bring out a speacial cake for her and your family sing to her... I have a 7year old boy, and for his birthdays it dosen't matter who's there just is he albe to do things he what to... Make choices that will work for your family... Maybe a water park, Zoo, or even just a day at home with you and your kids making it her day... hope this helps,
Good luck, T.

What about taking her for a mani or pedi? or doing them at home yourselves? And maybe her favorite food or restaurant for dinner? Could her Florida relatives put together some cards or well wishes from her friends there and send them up to you so you can give them to her that day? Whatever you plan, I'm sure she'll feel special that you wanted to make a big deal out of it! M.

my son just turned 8, things didn't work out to have a party, long story, so we had him pick with restaraunt he would like to have lunch or dinner at and we took him, also we took him to 6 flags for the day and spent a little bit more on a present than we normally would since we didn't have to pay for a party, I'm sure your niece would love anything you do for her. Just having a day where she can choose what to do, which does or doesn't have to cost anything will make her feel special. Kids love to have control and choose at that age. Have a great day. good luck.

My first question is: does she know any kids in your area her age? She prob. wouldn't want strangers to be there.
Ideas for her alone or with just 1 or 2 friends: Build a Bear Workshop, Shopping Spree, Movie and dinner of her choice. You could rent a Moonwalk (bouncy house), a trip to a local zoo or other interesting place.

I have a daughter who will be 8 this weekend, she helpped with some of the ideas.

Hi S.,

I have two little girls one just turned 7 in May and the other will be 9 in July. They have very different interests, so I would ask.

My 7 year old loves dinosaurs, frogs, lizards and other reptiles (don't ask, I don't know where that came from).

My almost 9 year old loves spa treatments, dress up, Hannah Monatana and anything else "teenagerish" of course she enjoys them in a very innocent and immature way.

They both love anything to do with fairies. If you google fairy houses you will probably find all kinds of "fairy house" tours in the local area or fairy house workshops. I had a fairy birthday party for my 7 year old and all of the kids had an absolutely great time. We did fairy dress up, fairy dances, made fairies out of pipe cleaners, beads, yarn and silk flowers, and them we went on a little hike looking for natural items (which are no longer alive). pinecones, pretty stones, moss etc. and we built fairy houses. It was magical the girls really got caught up in the moment and truly believed.

You might try a little touristy stuff. Take the train into town and do The Freedom trail, the Swan boats, duck boat tour, top of the Prudential center, FAO Shwartz (and maybe pick out a present) you could even have "tea" at the Park Plaza or other "fancy" hotel. Or go on a whale watch.

Well enjoy your time with your niece. If you find out a little about her interests, I'm sure you can plan a really memorable time. Oh yes, crafts are always popular.

Hi S.:

A fun thing to do with kids is geocaching. The website is http://www.geocaching.com/. It is a scavenger hunt with items placed in various places all over the world. The caches range from very easy to very difficult. If you go to website, you can see how many caches are hidden in your area. You'll be surprised how many there are. Some of the caches are take something leave something (for example one I found with my nieces and nephews was foreign currency -- so we brought a Euro coin and took a Danish coin). It is really fun and is like a big adventure for the day.

Here's a great website I've used before for birthday ideas.

Good luck and let us know how it goes !!
