Need Help with Carpet Cleaning

My daughters, 7 & 8, were cleaning their room and found a box that had a jar of green powder paint. They took it out of the box not realizing the lid was not on well. I now have several green spots on their tan carpet. I tried Pamolive Oxy Dish Detergent and bleach. Neither has worked. I've tried hand scrubbing as well as using the carpet cleaner. I am at a loss as to what to do to get these bright green spots out of their carpet. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I have had great sucess with Folex carpet cleaner. It is sold at Lowe's Home Improvement. It's in a white spray bottle with purple writing and it removed permamnent marker from my sofa and I also use it on my carpet for spots. It is around $4 and spots have never come back. Hope this helps and good luck!

You may have set the stain by using the cleaning products that you did. Call one of the cleaning companies. Drichem did a good job for us. Tell them what you did, and see what they say. Go from there. Is the paint washable? What does the label say? In the future, keep paints in the kitchen and buy washable.

R.,
You don't say where you're located, but I can highly recommend Turner Carpet Cleaning, owned and operated by Terry and Diane Turner.
They were able to get black mold out of a white sectional, and the charge was extremely reasonable.
They are privately owned, and serve middle TN.

Tell them C. sent you.

borrow or rent a carpet steam cleaner, that may work. I've never experienced powder paint, but I have learned that certain carpet messes are worse once they get wet, they run and bleed and end up a bigger mess than when they started. I'm not sure how big the areas are or how many, but I used Huggies baby wipes to clean up spots on my carpet. I know, it sounds weird, but they work. Some areas require more scrubbing than most but it works wonders on spots from what the family's shoes bring in, drips from drinks, etc. I've also tried the clorox wipes on the carpet and they work good too, they don't tend to over saturate the carpet.

good luck

Hi! God always has Plan B, and C and D!

IF none of the wonderful suggestions work, try either of these:
1. Tape off the carpet and use stencils and artistic scrolls and decorate the rest of the carpet in a scroll or art deco pattern with the same paint and some bleach.

2. Hire a carpet person to cut the spots out in a strip, and lay a contrasting color in lines and pattern to make it look like designer carpet.

Blessings!

I've been able to get most things out of our carpet (which is tan) with peroxide. I pour some on a cloth and just dab at the spots.

I had something similar happen to us .. I rented a Rug Doctor and used Era laundry detergent and mixed in some oxy clean. I had to go over the spots several times but now you never would know they were there!

Oh - I also used a carpet spot spray and let it soak in for about 15 minutes. It was Woolite Oxy Deep.

Try Spot Shot. That stuff is amazing. It took red paint out of my carpet one time.

Folex works on most things for us, although you may have already set the stains. You might contact the manufacturer of the paint and ask them for advice. If you have a remnant of the carpet somewhere, you might have to have the spots cut out and replaced with the remnant. Good luck - I have two boys who keep me constantly busy with such things.

Nature's Miracle. It gets just about anything out. I sell it at my pet boutique to get urine stains and odors out. It works!! It is available at most of the big pet stores and on line. I sell it for 6.49, not sure about other stores.

One thing that I know helped me was Windex. Removed any excess that is dried up first. Then use the Windex and a stiff brush. It also works well for ink stains on shirts. I find that the vinegar based Windex works best.

Good luck.

Try paint brush cleaner in the artist's section of stores like Michaels (Coupon for 40% off one reg. price item in Sunday paper). I use "Pink Soap" brand and have gotten paint out of carpet. I don't know if it will work after you have used other products first but I think it would be worth a try. I have also used Mr. Clean Majic Eraser on carpet (depends on the fiber content) and I have used white wall car wheel cleaners. (A car detailer taught me to spot clean car carpets with this cleaner) Good Luck!

no one has suggested Dawn liquid dishwashing soap yet - if it was a child's powder paint, it was probably Tempera, which is very easy to get out of clothes with Dawn (has to be that brand for some reason!) - I used to teach K3 and K4 and have raised 3 very messy kids of my own. I can usually get almost anything out with Dawn, so that is all I buy now for my kitchen so I always have it on hand. Buy a small bottle if you don't already have some, in case you don't like the results...

I am printing this list of suggestions for future reference myself, in case the Dawn ever decides not to work! :D

LOL! Sorry! But this reminds me of when my children, one week prior to moving, decided to "paint" the pale blue carpet a brighter blue with finger paints......with the carpet cleaner I used...I think it was Resolve, it turned a very, very, very bright HOT PINK!!!! Right in the door of my daughter's room. Needless to say, I was speechless...I ended up with an amazing carpet cleaner that did a special spot clean for 20$ and brought it almost completely out. If you didn't know it was there, you would never notice! It was great. I hope you've managed to get it taken care of already but just had to share! Good luck!
