Need Help Unlocking Cabinet

We have those magnetic kids locks on our cabinets and I cannot find the keys. I am assuming they are inside thanks to children. Does anyone have any advice on opening them without buying more locks? Thanks.

What can I do next?

I don't have these, but am familiar with them. Would a strong refrigerator magnet work? You know some are a lot stronger than others.

You can buy just the magnet thing on its own at Babies R Us. It is about $2.99. You'll find it on the rack with the other baby proofing items. I have the same system and made a mental note a long time ago incase this happened to me!!

Hi! I, too, have had the same issue! You will have a hard time finding anything around the house with the same gauss strength as the magnetic key. I got lucky and had found one of those magnetic name badges- you know the old school "Hello My Name Is" name tags? If you or your husband have gone to a fancy event, perhaps you got one of the new name tags that attach to your clothes via a magnet. Maybe a magnet that is sometimes on necklaces instead of clasps may work too. The point is, you need a really strong magnet. Your fridge magnets won't come close as your cupboards are thick so you need something with a lot more pull. If you don't have anything like I described, I'd recommend buying a new key. It will be a lot cheaper than fixing the cabinet from pulling too hard. Trust me, it's not going to give!

One other thought- are there cabinets nearby that don't have the locks that you can get in to and stretch your arm from the inside to get it open. On the side of the lock from the inside, you can feel the mechanism that keeps the door from opening, just push it in with your finger and have someone else open the door.

get a really strong magnet. But if you have to buy one, then you might as well buy new locks instead.

There should be a number or code on the front of the lock where the key goes in, that along with the cabinate manufacturer name (probably not essential) will all a locksmith needs to get you a key.

We have those and use a strong rectangular magnetic we got from home depot for under a dollar.

Hey K. - A couple of options - ask one of your neighbors or another friend who has these kinds of locks to borrow their key. Try using a few high-power magnets stuck together that you might already have at home. Replacements locks are pretty cheap - about $3

Also - I used one of these locks when I couldnt find my stud-finder when I needed to hang some shelves. Now we keep the locks out of the little one's reach by sticking them to the wall where there is a nail in a stud - works great!

Ooh, those are spiffy. I don't know exactly how they work. Have you tried sticking a strong magnet where you would usually use the key?
If that doesn't work, I bet you could buy extra keys at Home Depot or Lowe's, and use them without taking them out of the package, then return them.
