I have been in contact with Easter Seals and filled out all the paper work needed 3 weeks ago. No one is calling me back so I am trying to find an OT in the area (near darien) that will give him an evaluation so we can start therapy ASAP. I believe he has a sensory intergration disorder in at least 4 areas. Everyday is a struggle as we TRY to deal with his frequent meltdowns and it's getting the whole family stressed. We can't go out anywhere because of his outbursts. Please help me any OT's out there that take All Kids please contact me. We are losing our minds and it is effecting the whole family and we don't know how to help him. I want to get him diagnosed officially and need help ASAP.

**********I was sent the paperwork from easter seals on the 7th of July and filled it out and mailed it on the 8th of July. So, almost exactly three weeks. Our days are getting worse and I feel like he needs help/eval now. Easter seals hasn't even called me back. I called yesterday and today. He can't get EI because he is almost 6. I am calling around to find someone else while i'm waiting for easter seals to call me back. He has an IEP but he is great in school. We are having different issues at home, that we don't know how to deal with. When I tell the school about these issues at home they are surprised. The lady that isn't calling me back is just the admissions cordinator, not even a counsler!

What can I do next?

I dont know of any OTs other than the ones at Easter Seals here in VIlla Park which I do like. However, I am a chiropractor that specializes in children and I treat a lot of children with sensory processing disorders. I do do a full evaluation of them to see where the problem areas are and then treat them accordingly with adjustments to the spine and neuromuscular re education exercises. I can't officially DX your child with a SPD since I am a chiropractor but I can help treat him. I do also take the allkids insurance. If you want more info or have any questions just let me know.

Hello,
My son had OT, PT and ST through early intervention (Will County.) I would recommend that you call the main number of the Dupage office and ask for the supervisor. I hear that there is a high turnover of coordinators and some coordinators are not very responsive. There are timeframes that they are suppossed to follow.
Good Luck!

i am confused... you have contacted Easter Seals, you filled out the paper work, did they come and do the eval? If I remember they are on a 2 week deadline where they MUST have everything in and started once the process starts... I would look up Early Intervention in your area. i am in Will County but I can give you the number I have if you want and they can tell you what to do to get through to someone. I know several OT, DT and Speech therapists thorugh EI but I am not sure abotu the Kids network thing.. Seriously call Early Intervention in your area. - Good Luck!

I understand where you are coming from. My son had some eating issues and I called Easter Seals, and had to wait several weeks. I was getting very frustrated because he needed services asap, and obviously the people on the other end of the phone didn't have kids and understand how hard it is for a mother to see their child suffering. My best friend is a Peds OT thru Early Interventions (Easter Seals), and she told me to just keep calling them. It all depends on the Service Coordinator who gets your case. Some are better than others. I would have my friend help you with an eval, but it all needs to go through the service coordinator for documentation and billing purposes. If you need her name to request her services, feel free to email me. Not certain if Darien is her service area cause she does a lot of evals in the south suburbs. And usually the first eval will be the entire therapy team of PT, OT, Speech Therapist, and Developmental Trainer.

Call Child and Family Connections of DuPage. They are your link to Early Intervention programs - - - I know your son is too old for that, but they are very helpful and I would ask them if they could refer you to someone who might be able to help you. They are in Lombard, the # is ###-###-####.

try contacting your local school district and you may get EI through the state which you pay based on your income. good luck!
