My friend is awesome at this skill....wish I had an ounce of her talent. She is currently helping me redo my master....it would be crazy if I did it without her.

My sister has a degree in Interior Design and has a very good eye. She's been helping me decorate my house for years and helps everyone in our family with all of our ID needs!
She is trying to start her own design business so she might have time to help you.

I am not sure what she'd charge, but you can give her a call.

Stripes look really good if you do the same color, pink for instance, and do the background eggshell and the stripes high gloss. I have seen this done with stripes about 8 inches wide and it looks so cute! About the office, a good rule of thumb is find an accent piece you like, Hobby Lobby is a great place for inexpensive, masculine decor items, and just let it inspire you. Also, you could get a piece of fabric for the window covering. Bounce the color and style for the room off of your inspiration piece. Two more suggestions, HGTV is a great place to go for inspiration, Design on a Dime has wonderful, low cost ideas. I go to decorating magazines for ideas. (Better Homes and Gardens is my favorite, but it depends on your style.) Go to Barnes and Noble or Borders and just thumb through their magazines, maybe buy two of them to take home. I have done this at Barnes and Noble during their story time, so I had like 30 peaceful minutes. They also have great decorating books, but those do get a littly pricey. You can also go to BHG.com, ikea.com, and Ballard Design (can't think of their website) for ideas. Best wishes for a hip house.

My daughter's room is done is stripes. The base coat is an orange sherbet color. Then the lower half of the wall is striped in the orange, lime green, and hot pink. The chair rail is a hot pink boa. It looks awesome and she loves it, it's totally unique.

Hi Christine,
When we painted my husbands office we made it to look like leather. We did a tan background and then we put on a darker brown on top. First we painted all of the walls the lighter color. After that dried we would paint about a 1'x1' square in the darker color and then use plastic (plastic bag or something like that) and dab some of the paint off so it made it have that leather look. Let me know if you don't understand my directions. I will try to explain better. He really likes it. It looks manly but I like it too!
I have an 11 month son and we did his room in blue and brown with a white chair rail. We put stripes on the bottom. The top is in blue and the bottom is brown. We put clear glaze on the brown just where we wanted the stripes. They don't jump out at you and it's easier to see them with light shining on them. It turned out really cute though. I think for a girl pink and brown stripes would be cute or pink with brown polka dots. Hope this helps! Good luck!

My daughter's bedroom is painted a lovely purple on two walls. We accented with soft greens - with small splashes of yellow and pink (in the stripes on the curtains, a pillow, etc.). The furniture is white. The whole effect is very calm and pretty. It isn't fussy, girly-girl, but very feminine and not too baby-ish! We like it. :)

If you want a pro's advice, I would call Jan Darnell with Lifestyles by Jan. She is interior decorator, and she will actually do a walk through your home and give you advice on paint colors, what you can spruce up a room with the items you already have. She charges only $100.00 for this consult, and the advice is invaluable. She did that for me and my home, and made it look showroom beautifull. And she gave me paint advice. I also have a painter if you are interested in hiring one, he does beautifull faux work. Jan's number is ###-###-####.

I've seen where people make it look like leather with brown and tan. It looks sooo cool. The office might look "manly" with this.

As for the stripes: I'd take a sheet with similar stripes as what you are wanting to the store with you for a color match. Then you will have the sheet to match too. :o)

Have fun and congratulations on your baby girl. I want one. :o( LOL

Blessings to you and your growing family.

One note of caution with stripes... if you have heavy texture on the wall, the stripe lines will not look straight, but slightly jagged. You may have to sand down the texture to make the wall a little more smooth.
Good luck! I think stripes in the nursery are so cute!
