Need Help on Soy Milk

My 18 month old daughter doesn't tolerate milk so I put her on Silk Soy milk. Shortly after putting her on it she got a yeast rash in the diaper area. Have you ever heard of this happening

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Well I took her off of soy milk and found some vitamin D milk that was lactose free. The rash is gone and it isn't upsetting her stomach or messing with her bowels. Thank you to everyone for all their help!

My son was allergic to milk, eggs and peanut butter. He continually had thrush and I had a yeast infection of the breast because I nursed him. Once we discovered the allergy, we cut out all milk and egg products and the infections went away. You might want to cut out all the milk products first to see if that is the problem. If she is allergic to soy, I recommend Vance's Dairi-Free. It is a potato starch powder that is a great tasting milk substitute. You can buy it at any nutrition store and since it is a powder, you only make what you use. It is what we used for my son until he outgrew the milk allergy at age 7. It also comes in chocolate which tastes like a rich cocoa. Good luck.

I've heard that most children with dairy intolerance are also intolerant to soy. Can she tolerate cheese and yogurt? Milk is not a necessity. You can provide the DHA and protein with foods like broccoli and fish. My son unfortunately cannot tolerate broccoli but he does eat fish. He seems to be okay with milk at this time, but he does suffer from some constipation. I am bringing this up with the pediatrician tomorrow. Good luck!

I seriously doubt it has anything to do with the soy milk. Lots of babies have yeast diaper rashes. My grand daughter had it and she was never on soy.
I really think it's just a coincidence.

Yep, I've heard of it happening before. My suggestion (after talking to your doctor, of course) would be to try rice milk. There are a lot less allergies associated with it. =0)

You can try rice milk or any other kind of "milk." You can make your own at home out of nuts (almonds, brazil nuts, macadamia, etc.) Whole Foods has a large variety of kinds & flavors. Trader Joe's has the best price on rice milk for the ounces.

I haven't heard of that but that doesn't mean much. My son was a preemie who didn't tolerate food at all till he was 9 months old. When we finally got to start milk he didn't tolerate it well either, and we had to start something called Acidopholis Milk. It's available at most grocery stores and Wal-Marts and it worked GREAT for him. It has a yellow label and only comes in 1/2 gallons but you can try it and see if that helps.

Soy is not good for babies. Please try a different formula for your baby and get the book "The Unhealthy Truth". It is written by a mom who did a great deal of research/investigation for all of us. Some information is also covered on the website allergykids.com. The yeast rash is a sign of yeast overgrowth in the intestines - a lack of good bacteria. All moms need this information now days, as food allergies are becoming more common than not. Arm yourself with this information.
