Need Help on Broken Bones with Bone Cysts
Hi moms! I am in desperate need of other mothers that have had my situation. My 15 yr. old son recently broke his arm & when they did an X-Ray they found a huge bone cyst. The doctor has ordered a Full body bone scan to check for other cysts or abnormalities. I was hoping that someone might have had a similar case & might be able to give me some advice. They say that the cyst could be cancerous but they are not sure as of yet due to they can't biopsey due to the broken bone. If anyone can help or relate...I would apperciate it! Thanks!

My son had a congenital bone cyst we found when he was 10. He punched his brother & had pain in his arm so that he couldnt lift it. 3 days later he had an xray. The Dr never mentioned cancer only that we had to monitor the healing of the bone with regular xrays for a period of about 6 months. He is now 18 with no problems & ran track & cross country through highschool.

I have never been in your situtation, so I have no advice to give. I just wanted to let you know that I said a prayer for Tyler. I hope that the cyst is nothing and his broken arm will heal soon! Good luck finding the info you need.
Sincerely,
L. W.

Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery Dept at Children's Memorial---they will typically see you almost immediately---top in their field and have ruled out concerns for us before without any surgery etc.

I have never been through anything like what you are describing but I did want to take a minute to write to you. I just wanted to tell you that I will be thinking of you and your son during this time and will say a prayer for you. I can't imagine the emotion and fear you feel. Good luck to you both. Shannon

I think cysts are fairly common. My brother had one on his neck as a child. Had it removed. He's fine as an adult. My family's had a history of breast cysts with no history of breast cancer or otherwise. I would wait for the results. Catching cancer early on is the key. Cancer is not a death sentense. Not at all. It's easily treatable now when caught early. Just have faith and patience.

My nephew had a similar thing several years ago. He was probably about 9 or 10. He went to Dr. Kucharzyk (sp) for surgery and treatment. The doctor was very good and the outcome was also good. I think he's in Crown Point.

I am a 40 year old who just found out that I had cancer cells on my righ arm bone. I did the chemo and radiation and the cells were no longer there. Then I broke my arm on my last day of chemo and had surgery. I had to have a pin and screw put in my arm. Thank God that when they did the surgery, then did not see any cancer cells on the bone.

T., you are right to say that cysts can or cannot be cancerous. I would write WEB MD and they have a wealth of information you can capture with the specific symptoms you are describing. It is far less anxious than getting advice from us armchair MDs!
I will hope that all turns out well and keep you in our prayers.
