Need Help! NO Income, New Baby, I Need Your Resources!

Hello
We have a very dear friend who JUST lost his job. They were barely making ends meet as it was. His wife does not work, so they just lost their only income. He will be filling for unemployment and while that helps, it cannot be his full income, which wasnt really doing it for them anyway. They have a 3 year old and a new born. Do you know where I can tell them to look for free anything? Diapers, formula, food, etc? We want to help them as much as possbile but right now we are a one income family and are barely making it ourselves. I have looked up information on WIC and food pantries, but wanted to pool resources so we at least know what cards we are holding. Thank you soooo much for any information you have for me!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks so much for all the information, they didnt even realize they might qualify for any of these programs!

unfortunatly it can take time to get free money and resorses but start now and you will have the sooner than later.

food stamps and medicaid (for baby only), office is in denton at mckinney and loop 288. best way to apply is go in person , early in the morning be there at 730 doors open at 8, there will be a line that forms outside the door . get in it. once inside lady at fron desk has applications fill one out and return it to her. GET A RECIEPT , i cant stress this enough. that paperwork can get lost soooo quick you want proof you gave it to them . you wont get to do anything else that day. on the paperwork it asks for a contact so they can call you back and have an interview, in that section write "OFFICE INTERVIEW ONLY NO PHONE INTERVIEW ". by opting for the person to person interview everything goes faster. at your appontment bring every bill , ss card , TXdl , back account statements , home morgage, paycheck stubs......they will give you a list bring it all !!!!! even if you think it isnt signifigant just bring it! they will most likely want it. if you have everything needed you will recieve benifits that interview day or shortly there after. make sure both her and her husband go they will need to fingerprint both of them for the food cards.

food bank..... if they live in Lewisville. CCA on mill st has food bank you can apply for .Also they have emergancy food you can usually get that day but i think you can do it only once.

wic -in lewisville is on lake park near 35 . if you already have medicaid you automatically can recieve wic just make appt.

other help .in lewisville there is the Advocacy and Pregnancy center on mill street south of main . call r wal in . the can help wth diapers and baby clothes they also have other places they can recomend.

sometimes local curches will help with bills . cross timbers church in argyle use to and still might. just check around.

if they are having trouble with hospital bills incured for the babies birth. most hospitals have somesort of charity department where you can present your case and they will forgive you the debt you owe , check that out with the billing dept or just call the hospital. they might call it something else.

hope that helps some.

I live in Denton and I know that there is a program to help provide groceries to families who are having financial trouble. Contact the Food Bank and ask them about it. I'm not sure of all the details or what it is called.

Go here to apply for state benefits:

https://www.yourtexasbenefits.com

This will cover medical, food and possible TANF (temporary aid for needy families).

WIC will def help with milk, formula, juice, cereal, peanut butter or beans. I used it for my son when he was an infant and never had to buy any formula. They will until the child is 5 yrs old. Food stamps help too. You can also go to your local churches and get help. The Catholic church helped with gas, diapers, bills.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

Tell them to call 211. This is a referral line that will refer them to charities in their area that can provide them with whatever they are needing - financial assistance, food, clothing, etc. All charities in N. Texas serve people based on their zip code (in order to prevent "double dipping" by dishonest people). There's no point in them going all over the metroplex to find help when they can only go to a select number of agencies based on where they live.

She can get free formula, diapers, staples (milk, butter, etc from WICK
