Need Help Babyproofing

My only recommendation is what we did last week, which was go to ikea and buy the table with the glass doors that lock. It was $150, and works like a charm. Might not help on the speaker, but he can't get to the receiver, dvd player and cable box anymore. We also put the power strip inside the cabinet, so he can't mess with it anymore, either.

i used card stock that was a similar color to the tv and taped it over the buttons. I put a hole in it for the remote sensor. Out of sight out of mind worked here.

Try clear plastic and the little hooks you use to attach a mirror to the wall. Attach the mirror hooks on the sides so you can leave some space at the top and bottom for air circulation.

Babiesrus sells clear plastic protectors made just for TVs DVDs and other such things to protect little fingers and coins from going in the their or from them messing with them. We bought them and used them. They work well until she was about 2 and beat the system :). They are cheap and work great, I bet you could look online or go to their local store.

When I baby proofed the house with our little ones, I did 3 things:
1. I covered all electric outlets with plastic covers
2. I put everything breakable up and out of reach to little children.
3. I realized that the babies would just need to learn that some things they are not allowed to touch. I told them a firm "NO" when they reached for a forbidden item. I rewarded them for obedience or distracted them to play with something else. Our daughter crawled at six months. She loved to pull all the magazines out of the rack and take all the pots and pans out of the kitchen cupboard. I allwed her to do this but she had to help me put things back. Often mothers forget that children understand much more than we'd like to admit. AF

At Toys R Us you can get a clear plastic guard in the babyproofing section. It is made specifically for this. Good luck. We're going through all of that too. So frustrating!

The company One Step Ahead has many wonderful items that help with baby proffing your house, they make a cover to go over the button on the front of the TV that velcros on and does not come off easily but the remotes still work. We have used this clear cover for our kids and it worked until they were old enough to figure out they could get their fingers around it, but that will be several years for you!

It's just a clear plastic guard that attaches under the tv/vcr and goes over the controls to keep little hands out. The downside is that you have to move it to put dvd's or tapes in. At one time, we also had a vcr guard, that was black plastic. You basically place it in the slot where the tapes go by squeezing the buttons on the end, and once it's in there, the kids can't remove it. Not sure if they still make them.

You can buy clear plastic to put over it, but we just used a section of our superyard to block of the tv stand.

I had a similar problem with my now 6 yr old son. He was a true "button boy" and would push every button he could find, and put anything that would fit into any hole he could find. I also had the entertainment center with the opening for the tv, etc with no glass door to protect it. I found the best defense was to slide my coffee table right up to the entertainment center, with no room to walk in between. Peter would use the table to pull himself up to stand, and eventually started climbing on it. But it worked until he was about 2 1/2.

We bought the clear plastic DVD covers from BRUS - cost about $8 a piece and used them for in front of the TV, DVD, etc. If the kids try really hard they could figure out a way to get around it but in general they work really well especially if your little one is only a year old - it solved the problem for us. I thought that stage would NEVER end but it eventually does. Good luck!
