Hi everyone! My brother and I are going to throw a surprise 40th wedding anniversary for my parents next year (June 2009). And we're going to be inviting a little under 100 people, so we're looking to book a place far enough in advance so that we don't have to worry about it later. I'd love to go somewhere really cute and quaint where you can have dinner and entertainment. It would be great to find a little "Ricky Ricardo" styled nightclub where there is live Big Band music and a dance floor and an entertainer. I'm sure there are places in Chicago, but we are looking to stay as close to the Northwest Suburbs as possible, since there are quite a few families with children (and we all basically live in the NW Burbs). I would really appreciate any ideas you all have!
Thank you!
E.

Hi E.!

My favorite place to host a party or visit is "Hotel Baker" in St.Charles. It is very old and quaint and sits right on the Fox river in down town St.Charles. My Niece had her wedding ceremony and reception there and I have hosted many other parties there as well. They often have a band or vocalist of some sort but you can always hire your own. If you would like, I have the name of a very good band that we have used.
Good Luck, planning an event like this can be a lot of fun!!! Enjoy!

Diplomat West in Elmhurst on rte. 83 and North Ave. You may have to supply the entertainment but I'm sure they have lists of people that appear there. A few months ago, an Elvis thing was going on...I had a blast and Elvis was never one of my favorites. Good luck

There is a pretty clubhouse in Palatine, Twin Lakes Recreation Area, off 53 & Nw Hwy, by the Hotel Indigo. I don't know their fee, but you do have to bring in your own food.-the room is really nice though.....oh wait, try the Wellington of Arlington (just north of 90 on Arl Hts Road. it has that Supper Club kind of ambience.

Hi E.,

You can rent out the pavillian/gazebo at Harper College on the lake. It less than $40 for the day. Many people are
doing this. The lake is stocked with tons of huge fish so if
there are kids they can bring their fishing poles. You can
have alcohol too. My girlfriend just did her family reunion there & it was great. Hey, tons of parking too!
Best of luck!
