Need Health Insurance ASAP
Hi Ladies,
Here is my dillema. We need health insurance for 90 days before my husbands new health plan kicks in. We don't have all the money in the world but don't qualify for medi-cal, cmsp, share of cost medi-cal or cobra(way to high!). I contacted kaiser, but we just missed the deadline for applying. It wouldn't go into effect until July 1st. We can't afford 400-600/month that we have been quoted~!
I was thinking about applying for healthy families-just for my son but I still need insurance for me and my husband. What do you suggest we do?

You are probably past this now, but I just was given 90 days emergency medical till I can apply. (I WILL NOT QUALIFY) so next week they are signing me up for A.I.M.
Assistance for Infants and Mothers. A household of 4 (including the unborn) qualifies up to $5000 income per month and its $900 a year. Mabye this will be helpful to someone :)

Hi M.,
My advice is NOT to let your insurance lapse at any time. Get some type - ask about insurance with a very high deductible that would cover you only if something major happened. You never know - an accident, or someone in your family is diagnosed with a disease and none of that would be covered, even when the new insurance kicked in. I know the prices are off the charts these days, but for security, cover everyone, especially if it is only for 90 days. Good Luck!

Hi M.,
As you've discovered, there are some really big gaps in our health care system. Unfortunately, dads are often left out in the cold when searching for gap-insurance. I would suggest that you call First 5 Mendocino or Health & Social Services TODAY. You may qualify for programs and not know it.
Here's a link to the resource page of First 5 Mendocino. It describes some different options. Give them a call. They should be able to direct you to the appropriate resource. (Note: First 5 provides funding to programs and services for children ages 0 to 5 and their families. It is county based - every county has one. It is funded by tobacco taxes.)

The site also suggests: www.healthykidsmendocino.org.

check out www.eHealthInsurance.com They have some good rates for decent service. This is what we used for gap insurance. Make sure, when you talk to them, that they understand it is only for 3 months.

I've been through this dilemma before, only I had just learned I was pregnant with both of my children. I applied for assistance from the state, city, anything I "thought" I could qualify for. Thinking I would, being a U.S. citizen and paying my taxes, even with salary (which wasn't huge) and the number of people in my family, I didn't qualify for anything. And I wasn't going to lie and say I was unmarried and didn't know where the father was. Unfortunately, the only thing I could do was payout of pocket until insurance actually kicked in. So I did, and then when insurance did go through, everything was good. I'm pretty sure that if you apply as soon as possible to everything, you may get something for temporary insurance, especially for your son. I tried going online for quotes and calling local branches for health insurance for help. Apparantly there are tons if places who can assist you in looking for coverage, but not actually give you coverage. Don't give up hope, just keep looking. You'll find something at the right price. It will work out. Good luck!

Try Anthem blue cross. For my son and I it is under $200.

try healthy families but it also takes 90 days to approve too. Just keep your child healthy and then worry about yourselves.
