Need GOOD Optometrist
Hi Moms! My 6 year old daughter had her well check yesterday and her vision was not as good as it should be. Her near vision was 20/70 far was 20/40. Her pediatrician wants us to take her to an optometrist and I have no idea who is good with kids or where to start. I don't have any vision problems, so I am at a loss. Can anyone recommend a good doc? We live in Denton, but are willing to drive as far as Lewisville/Flower Mound/Coppell.
Thanks

Drs. John & Lisa Bowen are AWESOME ###-###-####. They are in Flower Mound, on 2499 just south of FM 3040. They are PHENOMENAL with kids and so patient with parent questions. They have elementary age kids themselves, so they "get it".
I've referred several friends who have just loved them too!

I go to Katie Rippley in Denton on Lillian Vernon (I think that's the street). I really like her and can see her being awesome with children. I highly recommend her!

I highly recommend Dr. George Beauchamp, a pediatric ophthalmologist at Baylor Grapevine. His number is ###-###-####. He is an excellent physician and wonderful with children. He has a very soothing voice and demeanor. My son had a procedure on his tear duct when he was less than 1yo and we had a great experience with Dr. Beauchamp.

Ousley Eye Associates in Highland Village. They were great with my son when he needed glasses.

Look no further than Bowen Eye Care...I agree! I've known them since college and would take my family to no one else! They are extremely thorough, and a wonderful Christian family. My mother had been seeing different optometrists for years, but it was Bowen Eye Care who detected a chronic eye condition that no one else had ever addressed. I also know that Dr. Lisa Bowen has extensive training in pediatric vision; both doctors are very kid-oriented.

He may be further out than what you want but I was diagnosed with Strabismus before 2 yrs old and went to Dr. David Stagger in Dallas. Dr. Stagger is great! I still actually go to him even though his speciality is children. If my little one had any eye problems this is the first place I would take her.

Having worked in optical for about 8 years, if she just needs glasses and is having no "major" vision problems, I suggest staying with an optometrist. They prescribe glasses every day and will give you a much better exam for glasses than an ophthalmologist. ophthalmologist deal with the big issues and are trying to get kids to see at all and don't do as well with the small things like glasses prescriptions.
Dr Mary Beth Hall in Carrollton (Primary Eye Care) does great with kids. She has kids of her own, though they are getting big now, and really appreciates the time she gets to spend with her smaller patients.
