I am the grandma of 14, and very soon to be 15. We have 9 boys, and this will be # 6 girl. The daughter having this baby is the mother of two boys, the youngest of which is 5. My daughter deceided to wait til the baby is here so that everyone can see her all at the same time rather than coming over at different times to see her, and possiablly waking her up. We were thinking about a Princess theme. Help me out OK. Any sugestions would be more than welcome. we have about a month.

What can I do next?

I just saw this idea yesterday and am totally using it for my own shower.

On the invitations, write a note that if they'd like to participate to bring a book to help start the baby's library. Include a sticker for them to write their name on and stick inside the book so when the baby starts reading, she'll know who each book was from.

Love it!

Hi Midge,

A different twist on the "bring a meal every day" idea (which is great--folks did it for our second child) is to ask guests to bring a frozen meal item, e.g. soup, chili, casserole, stroganoff meat, spaghetti sauce etc. and fill the family's freezer. Could be store-bought also if people don't like to cook or don't have time.

Re the princess theme, if you have children attending the shower, you could make them crowns and they could be princes/princesses. Or let them decorate their own crowns--keep them occupied! Scepters, anyone?

If you feel moved to make napkin rings, they could be crowns too.

You could have "royal purple" as a color for tablecloth, napkins etc.

Don't worry, whatever you do will be fine--the main thing is getting together. Take photos of the event and give copies to your daughter for the baby book.

Have fun!

Are you looking for more along the lines of a gift idea, or party ideas?

One thing we got that I liked was a stuffed animal that everyone signed who was there. The signatures include great grandmothers who have passed since, so it's a real treasure.

Congrats to you all!! Lots of grandbabies!!!
I love the idea mentioned about the "bring a meal". That is always so helpful.
I don't know if you are going to be giving out prizes or not, but on my blog is a neat way to contain them in a pop bottle. You could cover them with really cute scrapbook paper to match your decore. You could use the smaller pop bottles for the prizes and put in lik votives from the dollar store or something small. And depending on what you're getting her for a gift you could use the 2liter size.
You'd be surprised how much you can cram in there!!

Here is a wonderful idea that someone in our church started, and now we do this everytime and it is SOOOOO nice for the mom/dad/family.
At the shower, we pass around a list to all who are there, and request that if they want to, would they sign up to bring a meal one of the days following the birth of the baby. (this can still work for your shower too) They sign up on a specific day, write down what they will bring, and put their name and contact number. The meal doesn't have to be huge or costly. It can be a bucket of chicken and a couple of 2 liters, etc. EVERYONE who has had this done RAVES about it. (they did it for me 6 yrs ago, was absolutely fantastic)We cover the first 2 weeks after the birth but in your case it could go from the day after the shower for 2 weeks. You give a copy of the list to the mom and one of her organized friends. The friend in charge just calls the people on the list the day before their scheduled delivery and reminds them what they signed up for and double checks to make sure they can still do it. We have done this for about 8 yrs now and have not had any problems. It is so nice for the mom/fam cuz at least one meal out of the day is all taken care of, plus its fun to get different foods. (for smaller fams you can even just go to a fast food place (subway, arbys, rallys, mcdonalds)and get the food. Some people like to make a homemade meal and thats fine too.
Hope the shower goes over with a bang!!!
Congrats!

Following the Princess theme, and you state you are crafty, get a picture of the Disney Princesses, and make her a quilt or afghan with some of the Princesses on it. I have done several of them but can't remember where I put the graphs right now. They are probably out in storage, sigh.
You can always do a counted cross stitch for her wall with several of the princesses in it but those take a long time.
A photo album for her with Our Little Princess appliqed, embrodered etc., on the front would be a good idea too. I used to be crafty enough I made lamps for the bedrooms and a pumpkin coach lamp would be cute. I never got that far but I did a clown, Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Mickey Mouse, a Nascar, and a Tank of all things.
Enjoy the moment and I know whatever you do will be perfect!

Congrats, Midge! I would make the theme, "The Princess has Arrived!" I have seen glass slipper favors (check ebay) that you could fill with candy and pink princess carriage planters that you could use for the center pieces. www.polkadotdesign.com has some great princess carriage invitations that you could use. If you buy them and then print them yourself, it's pretty economical. I've done it for a friend's baby shower in the past as well as for my daughter's 3rd birthday "Bumblebee Tea" and they came out great. There's a company called Mud Pie that makes "The Princess has Arrived" picture frames. Perhaps a gift from the family could be a portrait sitting for the new baby and one of the frames. Have fun!

Are you looking for FOOD ideas, games or both? Game wise, might divide into teams & do a toilet paper princess (like they do at bridal showers) except princess, word games - how many words out of princess, etc. You might also go to your local card party outlet store. I've found books, etc. with games for just about all kinds of themes.

Congratulations on your soon to be baby granddaughter! I had a baby girl after two boys, and I made some precious little bracelets for her! She wears one almost every day, and she never bothers with it! She has a pink one with her name on it, and also a purple, a white and a blue bracelet! Everytime we go out of the house, she wears it and gets tons of compliments! She has worn them since she was just a couple of months old. If you would like me to make one for you, I'd be happy to. I can also e-mail you pictures of them so you can see if you are interested or not. Congratulations, again, on your new addition!
