Need Decoration Ideas for Girls Room

Ok so my dear husband jumps the gun and bought PINK paint.I'm talking a powder puff meets cotton candy type pink.It lookes a lot better than I thought it would. So now with pink walls and white trim. oh almost forgot the carpet will be a plum color..... I am lost trying to pick bedding curtains ect. for this room. The 2 girls sharing it are 21 months and 7 yrs. lil one like care bears, animals pretty much anything, older one says she would like frogs & butterflies and a tinkerbell bed spread. In the begining I was thinking horses, farm animals maby lil pet shop. I just dont want either one to feel left out(not too babyish not to biggirly). Was thinking about getting a bunch of those wall stickers instead of a border because the walls are panneling so there are grooves. Also I have a book shelf that is shaped like a barn and no clue what color to paint it now....(was gonna be red w/white trim. and along one wall is a built in storage bench we will use as toy boxes(painted white and has 2 windows above it). I am so ready to be done with this project. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

on the younger girl's side, you can put a cute white bookshelf(or use the farm house painted all white) where she can arrange her care bears and books. Then use white wall shelving(Target) on other side and put butterfly and frog pics or art in white frames.

as for the rest of the room, there is SO much you can do with pink. i am currently planning my little girls room(antique ballerina theme). since you have such a gap in between the ages, I would do a nuetral type theme such as stripes and polka dots.

get matching striped comforters for both beds and use polka dot bed sheets.
here is an adorable inexpensive one:

some of the white frames you can paint stripes on to match!

also, with that comforter, id use these polka dots on the wall to bring the plum in. just do one accent wall, not all over.

and these window treatments available at Target:

then id throw in these decorative pillows to blend everything:

Also check out Dollar Tree on the home row. They have some cute wall stickers that are bright little girl things (flowers, etc.). You could also use them to decorate your shelves, etc.

HI J.,
WHEN I DID MY GIRLS ROOM I DID PINK,PURPLE ,WHITE I GOT THEM A BORDER TO MATCH THE COLORS AND WENT FROM THERE I WENT TO LOWES THEY HAVE GOOD STUFF FOR KIDS ROOMS AND WHILE YOUR THERE CHECK OUT THERE CURTAINS I GOT MINE THERE ALSO FOR BEDING I WENT TO TARGET I ALSO DID A RUG AND LAMPS TO DRESS IT UP MY GIRLS ARE 3,9 AND THEY LUV IT OH AND AS FOR YOUR BOOK SHELF PAINT IT WHITE AND SPONGE IT WITH PURPLE AND HANG IT ON THERE WALL TO DISPLAY STUFF AND FOR YOUR STORAGE BENCH BUY SOME PILLOWS TO MATCH AND PUT THEM ON TOP FOR THE GIRLS TO RELAX ON HOPE I WAS SOME HELP .GOOD LUCK SAHM OF FOUR GREAT KIDS .............

I only let my girls do 'character' bedding under their bedspreads. They have coordinating color quilts and also a fairy-gypsy satin bedspread with great colors and beads. We use these 2 at different seasons. But under the pretty bedsrpeads...princess sheets, tinkerbell and violet from the incredilbles. Can the barn be painted to look like a house? Maybe you could use some the craft moss and turn it into a fairy house...moss,twigs, rocks, green earth tones. I would skip the stickers and hang a few shelves...they will find special things that are personal to put on them.

I thought I might add my 2 cents. I would keep ruffles and patterns to a minamum for the basic bedding and curtains. That way, you can change the look of the room with pillows, pictures, and the things that your girls love. As their interests evolve, the room will change.
Personally, I would add some lime green accents. Colorblocked pillows with pink, lime green, and plum would look great now and may take the girls right up to their teenage years.

Good Luck!

I think you can easily incorporate butterflies and forest animals with Tinkerbell. At Wal-Mart and Target they have many brightly colored sheet sets that would probably fit right in with your color scheme. Our girls (3&5) have really light purple walls and a white organizer shelf with pink, blue, and green drawers. One sheet set is pink and purple swirly and the other is green, blue, and purple striped. We have a "dollhouse" bookcase (much like what you're talking about, I imagine) and I painted it pink and white. It's very cheerful and they love it! Happy shopping!

The thing about the 21 month old is she will love whatever the big sister wants!!!!
All it takes is putting personal touches for both girls. So you can do the theme that you are thinking and then find stuff with their names on it or add other personal touches.
I think it sounds cute. I wish I had little girls to have a pink room. I have little monsters so everything thing is blue and cars and dinos!!!
Have fun.

What about all the flower power stuff that's pretty popular right now? I have seen it in the pastel colors. Alot of it has butterflies in it. That way you are not putting up something (like Care Bears) that will get outgrown in a year. Plus it gives you multiple colors to play with. I know Target has some and homedecorating does to.. Happy Gathering....
