Need Costume Help!
I have a friend who says she isn't very crafty. Her six year old daughter is going to be in the school play and needs a ladybug costume. Any ideas on simple costume design?

I actually made one this past year... very easy... Black pants (stretch look better), black top, black gloves. For the wings, I took 2 peices of cardboard that were shaped like toilet seats, covered them with red material (glued them with a hot glue gun), hot glued black dots (black material)... hot glued the wings overlapping each other, and then on the opposite side I glued some black stretch bands with velcro, to attach them to her arms. Came out very cute!
Black hairspray and red lipstick finished it off! Good luck!

What about a red sweatshirt/t-shirt and cut out black circles from fabric and glue or pin them on the shirt. with a black long sleeve shirt and black pants.

Familyfun.com. This website gets a little hairy sometimes to navigate through but it saves my life hundreds of times a week. It helps with crafts, meals, and even traveling. I love it.

I am not at all crafty either. One Halloween, my daughter wanted to be a M&M. We went to a fabric store and bought some heavy duty felt (comes in red), cut it into 2 large circles and sewed them inside out. This makes the body of the M&M or ladybug. Prior to sewing, make marks on fabric to allow room for head, arms, a lot of extra room at the bottom so her child can walk. Then put one circle on top of the other, making sure that the pretty color in turned inside out. Once sewn, turn the outfit inside out so that the pretty color is showing with no seams. (I hope this makes since. Kinda hard to explain it on email.) The circle went to her lower thighs so I got her leotards. Also, she can get some cheaper black felt to do the dots and glue them on with fabric glue. The kids could probably do the dots! Once the holes for the arms, head and legs were correct, we turned them inside out again to make a seam for them as well. I got together with her friends mom and we made them together in one evening. We had a blast. They were both M&M and were so cute and the costumes looked professional. Very easy to make...the only difficulty is prior to sewing, do the math to figure where head, arms and legs go, then sew. Very inexpensive project, especially when we couldn't find them in the stores!!!! Also, since there may be other ladybugs in the play, make templates for the body circle so they will all be approximately the same size.

Old Navy had some during Halloween....go online and see if they still have them in clearance, or there's always Ebay!

Check out Family Fun on the internet, as I saw a pattern for a ladybug on their website a couple of Halloweens ago, and I am pretty sure that they keep things like that available.
Blessings to you,
K.

I have made a lady bug custume for 3 little girls l as well as my own little one; it is easy and cute. By red felt by the yard cut 2 ovoids that will be big enough to cover back. Cut 2 pieces of elastic the length, the length will depend on how gib the childs arms are around. sew the 2 ovoids together , stop about 5-8 inches before completely sewn, then turn the oviod inside out so the seam is now inside, stuff with batting and hand sew or machine sew the opening. Cut several black felt hole and either hot glue, sew or I used iron on interfacing . Attatch the elastic to form loops to hold costume on. for attenta attach black pipe cleaners to black head band for cuteness attach pom pom to top. Hav eyour child wear black body suit and tights and it is the cutest thing you hav ever seen. The first time I made it it only took 2 hours to maek complete back, now I can do it in under an hour.

Either a plain large t-shirt in green or red, glue on big black felt circles, perhaps this might do. If she wants to be really creative, then how about an oversized t-shirt stuffed with tissue paper to make it puffy. The t-shirt would have to be gathered at the bottom in back with a rubber band (they come in green or red), or a clip for gathering shirts or whatever. Green or red socks could complete the outfit. Oh, and how about pipe cleaners for the antennaes ? Possibly a head band with pipe cleaners wrapped around it ? All this stuff could be color coordinated and purchased at the Dollar General !
Hope this was helpful.
Best wishes, I'm certain all will turn out just fine.
